Pakistan cricketer Sulaman Qadir has been accused of sexual assault from his housemaid. It is worth noting that Sulaman is one of the four sons of legendary Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir.

Sulaman has already been detained by the police after the house maid filed an FIR. The maid alleged that the former Pakistan cricketer forcibly took her to his farmhouse and raped her.

Abdul Qadir’s son detained by police

A police official said that Sulaman Qadir has been taken into custody for questioning after he was accused of sexual assault against his house maid. The official also added that the house maid will also be sent for a medical check-up to confirm if she was sexually assaulted by the former Pakistan domestic cricketer.

As per the FIR lodged by the house maid, Sulaman Qadir took her to his farmhouse where he raped her.

It is worth noting that Sulaman played 26 first-class matches, 40 List A games and 10 T20s in Pakistan domestic cricket between the years 2000 and 2013. While he also represented the Pakistan Under-19 team for a tour of Sri Lanka back in mid-2003, the cricketer never received an opportunity at the senior level for the Pakistan cricket team.

Sulaman Qadir’s family legacy with cricket

Sulaman Qadir comes from a long list of cricketers in the Qadir family, with his father Abdul Qadir regarded as one of Pakistan’s greatest leg-spinners. His brothers Rehman Qadir, Imran Qadir and Usman Qadir have also played domestic cricket in Pakistan.

Moreover, even Sulaman Qadir’s sister Noor Aamina married Pakistan international and star wicketkeeper-batter Umar Akmal. Apart from being a brother-in-law of Umar, Sulaman also runs his father’s cricket academy in Lahore that was instrumental in shaping the career of star Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah.

The late Abdul Qadir himself is widely regarded as one of the greatest spinners in the history of Pakistan cricket. Abdul Qadir played 67 Tests and 104 ODI matches for the Pakistan team between the years 1977 and 1993. He picked up 368 wickets across both international formats, including 236 in just 111 Test innings at an impressive bowling average of 32.80.

In ODIs, Abdul Qadir harvested 132 sticks in 100 innings at an average of 26.16. He was part of the Pakistan team that played the 1983 World Cup and 1987 World Cup in England and India respectively.

What’s next for Sulaman Qadir

With Sulaman Qadir finding himself under police custody, the case is expected to proceed through a formal investigation process in the coming days. The police authorities will now be expected to record statements from both parties.

As of now, no official statement has been made by Sulaman himself regarding his alleged involvement in the sexual assault of his house maid. As the investigation unfolds, more clarity will be expected in the coming days.

Nonetheless, the developments have cast a shadow over the celebrated Qadir cricketing legacy, as focus is now firmly placed on the legal process rather than the family’s contributions to the game.
