Zimbabwe Cricket has unveiled an exciting stretch of international fixtures, headlined by a three-match ODI series against Australia in September. The announcement comes as part of a broader effort to strengthen the team ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, which Zimbabwe will co-host alongside South Africa and Namibia.
In the T20 World Cup 2026, Zimbabwe was placed in Group B alongside Sri Lanka, Australia, Oman and Ireland. The Zimbabwe finished the group stage with three wins in four matches they played. The team entered the Super 8 stage for the first time.
Zimbabwe to host Australia for ODI series
Zimbabwe’s upcoming ODI series against Australia is particularly significant, as it marks the visitors’ first 50-over tour in over a decade. The last time Australia played ODIs in Zimbabwe was during a tri-series in 2014, which also featured South Africa.
It is important to mention that the 1st ODI of the three-match series will be played on September 15, 2026. The second match of the series will be played on September 18, followed by the last and third ODI on September 20. All the matches will be played at Harare Sports Club.
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni highlighted the importance of hosting a top-tier side like Australia.
"We are delighted to welcome Australia back to Zimbabwe for what promises to be a highly competitive ODI series," Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni said. "Fixtures of this calibre are vital for our growth as a team. With the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 on the horizon, this tour provides invaluable preparation as we build towards hosting the tournament alongside South Africa and Namibia.
"It is also a fantastic opportunity for our fans to experience top-level international cricket at home, and we look forward to strong support at Harare Sports Club."
This series offers Zimbabwe a valuable opportunity to test its squad against one of the world’s strongest T20 sides. For India, it provides a chance to rotate players and build bench strength.
