There is no denying that Jasprit Bumrah is India’s greatest match-winner across formats, and time and again, he has proven his worth with match-winning spells to help India win ICC trophies. He was also the hero for the nation in the T20 World Cup 2026 as the pacer was instrumental in India’s win in the semis and the final.

One trait that separates Bumrah from other world-class bowlers is his ability to deliver in crunch situations by using different variations to fox the batters. Take, for example, his exploits against England in the semis. Jacob Bethell was running away with the contest, and India needed a miracle to win the game.

This is when Bumrah showed his mastery as his last two overs delivered only 14 runs, and England fell short by 7 runs, chasing a mammoth 254 on the board. He bowled a plethora of yorkers, and slower deliveries, and hardly allowed England to free their arms.

Revealed: Who taught effective slower deliveries to Bumrah

Many believe that the Indian seamer learned the art of slower deliveries while playing for India, but recently, a shocking revelation was made by a Pakistan-born UAE bowler, Zahoor Khan. According to him, Bumrah watched his videos from the T10 League and understood the art of slower deliveries.

"I bowled a maiden over to Lendl Simmons in a T10 match where I deceived him with 5 slower ones, Bumrah watched the video of that over & then he asked me "how did you bowled these slowers ones with the same action?" & he asked the hand grip to bowl, then I taught him in the nets," Zahoor stated.

While Zahoor has not played any official match alongside Bumrah, he has represented MI Emirates in the ILT20, and has also been used as a net bowler by the Mumbai Indians. Perhaps, this is where Bumrah had a discussion with the UAE pacer about the art of slower deliveries.

What makes Bumrah's slower balls special?

Bumrah is effective because of his variations, and since T20 cricket is a batter's dominating game, bowlers need to constantly evolve in terms of skills. This is what Bumrah has done, honing his skills with each passing game.

He is known as the yorker king, for his pinpoint accuracy, but at the same time, the pacer has a brilliantly disguised slower ball. There are two types of slower ones that he uses- one, where he bowls with a straighter wrist, and it is easy to pick.

However, the slower one that he learnt from Zahoor is what makes him dangerous. Bumrah, at the last moment, rolls his fingers over the ball and bowls a slower off-cutter delivery, which deceives the batters.

Bumrah's heroic performance in T20 World Cup 2026

Bumrah was India’s best hope to retain the T20 World Cup crown, and the 32-year-old delivered the goods with a performance of a lifetime as India became the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cups.

He played 8 matches in the tournament, and finished with 14 wickets, with an average of 12.43, and an economy of 6.21. India played most of its games on flat wickets, and while others were conceding runs for fun, the Indian seamer was effective with his variations.

Even in the final, Bumrah finished with 4 wickets as India defeated New Zealand to clinch the crown.
