Nitish Rana lost his mother on August 7 in the middle of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026. Despite that, he did not miss a single match in the competition, where he captains West Delhi Lions.

To make it more heartwarming, Rana, since he lost his mother, has ‘N. Satish’ on the back of his jersey in DPL 2026 instead of his own name. And on Monday, he could not control his emotions after bringing out a fine half-century during Match 31 of the competition between West Delhi Lions and South Delhi Superstarz, which took place at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Nitish Rana Remembers His Late Mother; Gets Emotional

One of the most popular faces in India’s domestic cricket for the last decade or so, Nitish Rana had scores of four-ball 3, 25-ball 32, 13-ball 9 and 17-ball 35 until Monday’s fixture. He finally notched up his first half-century of the season, which eventually ended on 33-ball 60.

During the ninth over of West Delhi Lions’ innings, Rana played smartly against Anshuman Hooda to turn a yorker-length delivery into a boundary. With that, he got to a fine half-century, and immediately after, he raised his arms towards the heavens, remembering his late mother.

Tejasvi Dahiya, who is now part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a franchise Nitish Rana used to represent, came up to Rana and patted him on the back in support.

One of the substitutes from the West Delhi Lions camp came with a towel and some water after Rana’s half-century. He splashed water on his face to get back to normal, making the whole moment worth it to go viral.

Digvesh Rathi Stands by Nitish Rana

One of the most memorable moments in the two and a half DPL editions was the fight between Digvesh Singh Rathi and Nitish Rana. In fact, the duo were in discussion yet again in the early half of this year’s edition.

However, Rathi won many hearts on Monday night through social media. On his Instagram, he posted a story of the entire Nitish Rana video, where he was seen breaking down in tears, and kept a red heart and a hug as caption.

Rana's Heroics Go In Vain

Unfortunately for Rana, it did not come to a winning cause. Even though West Delhi Lions got to 169 before losing all 10 wickets in 19.5 overs, all South Delhi Superstarz took were 15.2 overs to get the job done.

While Sanat Sangwan remained not out on 111 off 54 balls, Anmol Sharma made 55 off 38 balls without losing his wicket. As a result, South Delhi Superstarz, led by Ayush Badoni, secured a thumping 10-wicket victory over Rana’s West Delhi Lions.
