Nitish Kumar Reddy was one of India's stars in their win over New Zealand in the second T20I in Christchurch on Saturday night, scoring 26*(13) to complement Tilak Varma and turn around the collapse. In addition to that, the pace-bowling allrounder has also impressed with his bowling across phases.

This is despite his recent injury struggles, wherein Reddy has missed quite a bit of action. The player has opened up about his struggles and revealed his current status, as he continues to gain prominence in the national side.

Nitish Kumar Reddy on his injuries

The 23-year-old was fast-tracked into the Indian team in 2024, instantly making a mark in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the bat. With Hardik Pandya's injury woes, Nitish Kumar Reddy has become a player next in the line and he has been grabbing his opportunities.

He has had several injury layoffs himself, but Reddy feels he is getting better at managing his body as an allrounder.

"I just want to tell you guys, this is just part and parcel of the game, and I am getting to understand, and you should too, that I am an allrounder and I have to do both batting and bowling even in practice. I have to do my workloads, more than anyone works on and off the field," he told the press.

"It is something that I am working on. Nobody likes to get injured, but it is something that I am working on, and I am happy that I am playing in the Indian team. It's about every day. The next day, if I turn up and play for my team, it would be a great sign for me, no matter where I play. I hope I don't get injured. I am in the process," he concluded.

Reddy continues to impress

With Pandya out injured for a while, Reddy has been the prime pace-allrounder, who is currently a part of all formats. His bowling was underwhelming initially, but over the last 12 months, he has worked on it and scalped two three-fers in T20Is, taking his tally to 11 wickets in 11 T20Is.

Furthermore, he has taken his batting a few notches above, with 181 runs in 8 T20I innings and, more importantly, at a strike rate of 174.03. The player looks raw for ODIs right now, but in Pandya's absence, he does not have too much competition for the spot, making him instrumental in the lead-up to the World Cup, where he could play a part.
