The India A vs New Zealand A first unofficial Test has reached Day 2. However, the visitors have been facing difficulty in finding consistency with the bat.

After India A was toppled for 113 runs in their first innings, the second innings kicked off with an unfortunate happening for KL Rahul. The senior India batter was dismissed hit-wicket as he was struggling to find a response to the Kiwi bowlers at Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

KL Rahul commits hit wicket to dismiss himself

Coming into bat as an opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul kicked off India's session on Day 2 on a defensive note.

However, as things progressed, after scoring four runs off the fourth ball of the fifth over, Fraser Sheat, a young New Zealand pacer, bamboozled KL Rahul into dismissing himself.

Watch the clip below:

As Fraser Sheat delivered a good-length ball around the fourth stump, Rahul leaned forward to defend it with soft hands. The ball dropped on the pitch and then rolled back onto the stumps, and in order to save the ball, KL Rahul tried to tip it away with his bat.

In the attempt to tip the ball away, KL Rahul touched the stumps. The strike with the bat dislodged the bail and registered the India batter as a hit-wicket.

How have KL Rahul’s recent red-ball performances been?

Recently, KL Rahul has been struggling with low scores in red-ball cricket. In the India A versus New Zealand A first unofficial Test, he was out for a duck in the first innings, while getting dismissed for four runs in the second innings.

In the Ranji Trophy too, where he represented Karnataka, he was dismissed for 1 and 4 runs in the two innings he played on 11th October.

His only notable performance came in the India vs Sri Lanka Test series, where he averaged 45.0 from the three innings he played in the first and second Test.
