Ardent Mumbai Indians fans have been majorly missing Rohit Sharma, who did not take part in their previous three IPL 2026 matches after suffering a painful hamstring injury. Amidst all this, a fresh update came regarding the former MI captain on Tuesday just before their next fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

MI will face SRH on Wednesday in Match 41 of IPL 2026 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Given the fact that the five-time champions have been going through a rough patch lately, Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2026 availability, without a doubt, a subject to discuss.

MI Media Manager Breaks Silence On Rohit Sharma

Just about the 24 hours before the MI vs SRH IPL 2026 match, Ashwani Kumar, the young pacer who claimed 4/24 against Gujarat Titans a few days earlier, came to address the press. There, questions raised about Rohit Sharma’s availability, and there, MI media manager spoke about the most talked-about subject.

"Rohit Sharma is progressing well (from his hamstring injury), but any call on his match participation will be taken tomorrow evening before toss," MI media manager said just before the Ashwani Kumar press conference.

When Did Rohit Sharma Sustain Hamstring Injury?

Rohit Sharma hurt his right hamstring while batting against Virat Kohli-starred Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 12. He had to retire hurt after continuous pain, and was later set for scans.

Since then, he has not been participating in IPL 2026, making significant impact in MI’s ongoing season results.

How Are Mumbai Indians Performing Without Rohit?

The Rohit Sharma injury opened the door for Quinton de Kock, who returned to MI ahead of IPL 2026. The South African opener announced his arrival with a statement century, although it did not come in a winning cause.

After that, de Kock’s scores read 13 and 7, and MI failed to win each of their three fixtures when Rohit is not around.

At this point, MI are ninth on the IPL 2026 points table, only above Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow Super Giants. The Hardik Pandya-led side have won only twice in seven matches, including a shambolic 103-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

How Had Rohit Sharma Performed Before Injury?

Rohit was in decent touch in IPL 2026, kicking off the proceedings with a spectacular 38-ball 78, which had six sixes and as many fours. It came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as the 38-year-old showed no mercy to the bowlers while turning back the clock.

After that, Rohit made 35, 5 and 19* before picking up the hamstring injury. It will be interesting to see how he comes back in IPL 2026. Most probably, he will play as an impact substitute for MI if he gets fit for SRH match.
