Latest update on MS Dhoni's IPL comeback [Source: AFP]
The Chennai Super Kings have had an interesting IPL season so far in the absence of their legendary player, MS Dhoni. MSD is CSK’s most experienced player, and his experience was certainly missed by the franchise in the first five IPL matches, as the team lost three and won two.
Despite being 44, MSD still remains a valuable asset for the CSK franchise, and without his leadership on the field, the decision-making was not up to the mark, as several blunders were made by skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The five-time IPL winner suffered a calf injury before the start of the campaign, and initially, he was supposed to miss the first half of IPL 2026. However, a fresh Express Sport report on Wednesday stated that MSD will miss CSK’s next game against SRH, but will be available for the April 23rd game against MI.
Fresh MS Dhoni visuals indicate his participation against SRH
MS Dhoni’s participation in the next IPL match against the Sunrisers looked uncertain, as he was still recovering from a calf injury. However, the Yellow Army recently released a video, wherein the former captain of the side was travelling with the team, indicating that he might play a part against SRH.
The India and CSK great could be seen boarding the team bus, as the Super Kings fans have boarded the flight for Hyderabad. There were question marks over his travelling for the Hyderabad clash, but now it seems MS Dhoni could have an outside chance of playing in the CSK vs SRH IPL match.
How MS Dhoni sustained an injury before IPL 2026
It is to be noted that the former IPL captain has not played any competitive cricket match since the last IPL campaign, and thus, he was rusty during the training camp. It was then reported that MS Dhoni could be sidelined for the first two weeks of the tournament, but that timeline was extended to late April.
The nature of his injury required an extensive period on the sideline as MSD was hardly even seen near the dugout, and he quietly worked to get match fit.
Several reports indicated that he might make his comeback against arch-rivals, MI, on April 23, but there could be a twist in the tale, and he might be available for the all-important SRH match on Saturday.

How CSK have fared in MS Dhoni's IPL absence
Without MS Dhoni on the field for the first five IPL games, CSK crumbled under pressure. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s decision-making came under scrutiny, and that reflected on their on-field performance.
The Super Kings started the tournament with three back-to-back one-sided defeats at the hands of Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and RCB. The side was struggling on the field, but they responded in style with two consecutive victories.
The team defeated Delhi Capitals and KKR in their last two games, and have now jumped to 8th in the points tally, with four points in their bag.
