In the last few years, injuries have continued to haunt Indian star, Rishabh Pant. The keeper-batter has been troubled by gruesome injuries, and just when everything was going smoothly for him in the IPL 2026, the LSG captain’s night ended in misery against RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Despite not performing at his best for the franchise, ever since his 27 crore move last year, Pant has become an integral part of the LSG squad. He was expected to do well against RCB, especially after his heroics against them last season. However, things didn’t go according to his plans.

Pant hit by Hazlewood, LSG skipper retired hurt

Pant came to the field after the wicket of Aiden Markram, and right from ball one, he struggled to time the ball as Josh Hazlewood troubled him consistently. In the fifth over of the match, Hazlewooe bowled three back-to-back hard length deliveries as Pant missed it all.

On the third ball, the LSG captain swung and missed as the ball hit him on his left arm. The batter looked in discomfort as the physio came out, but after a careful examination, Pant was taken off the field as the batter looked in immense pain.

Hazlewood, the RCB pacer, was getting extra bounce from the surface, and this led to Pant’s injury as the batter failed to read the pace and bounce, as the ball hit him at 140 km/h.

List of injuries Pant has suffered in recent years

In the last few years, injuries have constantly followed Rishabh Pant, as the Indian keeper has struggled to stay fit. In December 2022, his life turned upside down when the southpaw was involved in a car crash, and he sustained dislocated right knee, torn ligaments, a broken wrist, ankle injuries, and significant abrasions/skin loss from his neck to his knees.

He eventually recovered from the injury, but it took him more than one-year to make his grand international comeback.

During the 2025 India tour of England, Pant was in terrific form, but in the Old Trafford Test match, the keeper was struck by a Chris Woakes delivery as he suffered a broken foot.

He came to the field with an injury, and also batted for a while, but after the game, he was ruled out for the next home Test series against the West Indies.

Can Rishabh Pant come out to bat again?

Had Pant been retired out, the LSG skipper wouldn’t have been able to come out and play against RCB in the ongoing clash. However, since he has been “retired hurt”, the equation changes.

Pant can come out and bat in the ongoing match, and as per the IPL rules, a player who suffered an injury and was taken off the field can make a comeback in the same innings. But there is a catch in this rule.

He must wait for a wicket to fall or another batter to retire before returning to the crease. Even if he is fit and raring to go, Pant cannot bat unless RCB takes another wicket.
