Mominul Haque is doubtful to make it to the Bangladesh playing XI for the second Test against West Indies next week. The top-order batter has been showing signs of concussion, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has since confirmed that the batting all-rounder will require medical clearance.

Mominul played the first Test of the series against the West Indies in Mirpur. However, he took a blow to the head while fielding for Bangladesh in the first West Indies innings on Day 3.

Mominul Haque was subsequently ruled out of the match, prompting Jaker Ali to take over as a concussion substitute.

Mominul Haque likely to be ruled out of remainder of series

On Friday, October 30, the BCB ruled Mominul Haque out of the remainder of Bangladesh’s series-opening first Test against the West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The board named Jaker Ali as his concussion substitute after Mominul showed signs of concussion.

The BCB wrote, “Mominul Haque had suffered a head injury while fielding in the 78th over of the West Indies first innings. As he has shown signs of concussion, he has been replaced by Jaker Ali Anik as the concussion sub for the remainder of the match.”

It now appears that the cricketer is also doubtful to make it to the Bangladesh playing XI for the second Test next week as per a report by Cricbuzz.

As per the ICC concussion management guidelines, the 35-year-old will be required to go through a graded return to play process, leading to a formal medical clearance. The ICC standard recovery period for head concussions is 7-9 days.

If Haque manages to return within this time frame, then he will have to pass the SCOAT6 test designed by the ICC. The test must also be conducted by an independent neurological specialist.

How will Mominul Haque absence impact Bangladesh in second Test

Mominul Haque, who played 81 Tests, is one of the most experienced members in the current Bangladesh Test setup.

He was part of the national playing XI that recently secured a historic drawn Test series on Australian soil, punching out 79 runs across both innings of the Darwin Test.

While Mominul has registered only one Test fifty in his last eight innings since June, the cricketer’s ability of negating the new ball threat at the top of the order makes his potential absence a major concern for Bangladesh ahead of the series-decider.

The second Test of the series against West Indies will be played between November 5 and November 9 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.
