There is no doubt that Pakistan cricket has witnessed a great downfall in the last few years as the team has struggled to beat top sides across formats. They crashed out of the group stage in the 2023 World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy 2025, but the final nail in the coffin was the recently-concluded T20 World Cup.

Pakistan played all its games in favourable Sri Lankan conditions, and yet, they bowed out in the Super 8 stage. Moreover, the breaking point came when the team lost against Bangladesh, 1-2 in the ODI series, which concluded on Sunday.

Former keeper makes startling remark about Pakistan team's condition

The entire Pakistan squad and the management have come under scrutiny for bizarre selection decisions, but there is one person who is getting heavily criticised is the PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. Under his regime, the Pakistan team has regressed, and so much so that the Men in Green are finding it hard to nurture top talents and win important games.

Furious with Naqvi’s handling of Pakistan and how the team has performed in recent ICC events, former keeper-batter Kamran Akmal vented out his frustration on the team management and took a subtle dig at them.

"The condition is such that now even Netherlands would want to play a series against us, then beat us and get Test status. This is the condition of Pakistan cricket now," Akmal said on a YouTube show, "Game Plan."

Speaking about the final ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan, Akmal stated that the Tigers should have scored 350, as Litton Das played slowly which halted their momentum. However, even after his sluggish knock, Pakistan still managed to lose the game.

"They (Bangladesh) could have easily scored 350 today, but scored only 290. Litton Das played slowly. Even then we lost."

After venting out his frustration at the Pakistan team, Akmal wasn’t done as he had one final thing to say to the PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi famously ran away with the Asia Cup trophy last year, instead of allowing someone to hand it over to India, and Akmal took a jibe at him.

"If you don't beat teams in matches, will you now steal ICC trophies and bring them home?"

Naqvi was heavily criticised for his actions during the Asia Cup trophy ceremony as he ran away with the coveted prize and kept it locked inside the ACC office, as the champions, India, are yet to receive it.

How Bangladesh vs Pakistan series finale unfolded

Heading into the 3rd ODI on Sunday, the series was evenly poised as the two teams had won an ODI each. However, the third game turned out to be an interesting affair as Bangladesh were put into bat by Shaheen Afridi, and the home side responded with a tricky score of 290/5, courtesy of a sublime hundred from Tanzid Hasan.

In reply, the Men in Green lost 3 wickets for 17 runs, before Salman Agha did the rescue work as he scored a fine century (106 off 98), but that wasn’t enough as Pakistan got bundled out for 279, thus losing the game by 11 runs.
