Melbourne Cricket Ground To Host 2028 T20 World Cup final - (Source: X)
In a significant update, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is all set to host the all-important T20 World Cup 2028 final. The development comes months after Melbourne and Adelaide were the two favourites to host the final.
A report from News 9 stated that Adelaide Oval won’t host the final and has not been awarded a semi-final either. The iconic MCG, which hosted the 2022 T20 World Cup final, has been awarded another final after 6 years.
Perth to Host Semis, one in New Zealand
Notably, Australia and New Zealand are co-hosts for T20 World Cup 2028. The News 9 report stated that New Zealand will get to host one of the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Perth is leading the race to host the 2nd semi-final.
Perth follows a different time zone from the rest of Australia, and the time suits India better, which is a powerhouse of world cricket. Therefore, Perth leads the race to host one of the semi-finals. Notably, the upcoming edition will run from October 12 to November 12, where 20 teams will lock horns in a 55-match tournament.

At present, there is no update on the number of matches that Australia and New Zealand will get to host because the ICC is busy preparing for 2027 ODI World Cup.
Adelaide Oval’s Bid Rejected Due To BBL Privatisation Dissent
The News9 report stated that Adelaide Oval’s bid has been rejected because of their recent dissent against the BBL privatisation. Notably, several state associtions opposed Cricket Australia’s plans, and Adelaide was one of them. The difficulties created in the path might have costed Adelaide their chance to host a final.
At present, CA’s board has greenlit the plan allowing individual states and clubs to sell stakes in their Team Participation Agreements (TPAs).
Adelaide Oval is yet to host an ICC tournament final. It hosted the quarter-final match of 2015 ODI World Cup. The Adelaide Oval also hosted the thrilling semifinal match between India and England in the T20 World Cup 2022.
