A fresh update on Lungi Ngidi has brought much-needed relief after the Delhi Capitals pacer suffered a serious head injury during the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings on April 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Earlier, the incident had left everyone worried because Ngidi could not get up after falling. Therefore, he was immediately taken to a hospital in Karol Bagh for treatment.
Lungi Ngidi suffers a nasty injury
The incident took place early in Punjab’s chase of a big target of 265 runs. At first, it looked like a normal catch opportunity; however, it quickly turned into a frightening moment. Ngidi, who was fielding at mid-off, tried to catch a high ball hit by Priyansh Arya.
However, he could not judge the ball properly and looked uncomfortable under it. As a result, while moving backwards to adjust his position, he lost balance. Consequently, he fell badly and landed hard on the back of his head, which immediately raised concern among players.
As soon as Lungi Ngidi fell, Delhi Capitals players rushed towards him. At the same time, Punjab players, including Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, stood nearby looking worried. Soon after, the medical team ran onto the field, understanding the seriousness of the situation.

Moreover, a neck brace was placed on Ngidi to keep him stable, and he was treated on the ground. Eventually, he was taken off the field and rushed to the hospital for further checks.

However, there is now good news. According to IANS, Lungi Ngidi has been discharged from the hospital and is doing well. In addition, he has already returned to the Delhi Capitals team hotel.
"Lungi Ngidi is doing well and has now returned to the DC team hotel in New Delhi. Him being sent back to the hotel after being discharged from the hospital is a very positive indication of his recovery, and the franchise medical staff will continue to take good care of him,” said sources to IANS.
Therefore, although the incident looked serious, his current condition is stable and improving.

Meanwhile, the injury created a problem for Delhi Capitals during the match. Initially, Dushmantha Chameera was being considered as a concussion substitute. However, this was not allowed because Delhi had already used four overseas players in their playing XI, including Ngidi.
As a result, they had to choose a player from the impact substitutes list. Consequently, they picked Vipraj Nigam, even though he was not a similar replacement.
Punjab Kings defeat Delhi Capitals
Meanwhile, the match itself turned out to be very exciting. Earlier, KL Rahul played an outstanding innings and scored an unbeaten 152, which is the highest score by an Indian in IPL history. In addition, Nitish Rana scored a quick 91 runs, and together they made a huge partnership of 220 runs. As a result, Delhi Capitals scored 264 for 2.
However, despite this big total, Punjab Kings played brilliantly. They chased the target successfully with six wickets in hand, and thus, they created history by completing the highest successful run chase in IPL and T20 cricket.
