On Wednesday, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced Mumbai Indians in an important IPL 2026 clash at Eden Gardens. KKR entered the match with strong pressure, as the team needed a victory to stay alive in the playoff race.

Moreover, the players delivered an impressive performance and secured an important win in front of their home crowd. At the same time, it also created concern after young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi suffered an injury scare during the game. The youngster has been one of KKR’s leading run-scorers in IPL 2026.

How Did Angkrish Raghuvanshi Get Injured?

The incident took place during the 11th over of Mumbai Indians’ innings. Tilak Varma played a high ball in the air, and both Angkrish Raghuvanshi and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy rushed towards the catch. Raghuvanshi called for the ball while running in quickly behind the stumps.

Although Varun Chakaravarthy managed to get his hands on the ball, the catch was dropped after a collision between the two players. Furthermore, Varun Chakaravarthy looked visibly disappointed after the missed opportunity.

Even after the collision, Angkrish Raghuvanshi continued to play for a few overs. However, in the 14th over, he walked off the field for medical treatment. It is important to note that Tejasvi Singh later replaced him behind the stumps for the remaining part of Mumbai Indians’ innings.

KKR Coach Reveals Angkrish Raghuvanshi Injury Details

After the KKR vs MI match, KKR assistant coach Shane Watson spoke about the incident during the post-match press conference. He explained the reason behind Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s absence during the run chase.

Watson stated: “Ankrish, unfortunately, ran a long way to be able to try and get that catch. And unfortunately, the collision that he had with Varun Chakravarthy meant that he ended up having some neck pain, a bit of dizziness and a bit of a headache within a couple of overs of that as well. So, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to finish off the game.

And I know how desperate he was as well. He’s someone who is as tough a competitor as I’ve ever met. So we certainly missed him from a batting perspective.”

KKR Holds Nerve In Tense Chase

Despite the injury setback, KKR managed to complete a memorable victory against Mumbai Indians. Chasing a target of 148 runs, KKR stayed calm during a tense finish in Kolkata.

Rinku Singh eventually played the winning shot and helped the team cross the finish line. As a result, KKR moved to sixth place with 13 points in the IPL 2026 points table. Notably, the victory also kept them level with Punjab Kings in the race for the final playoff spots.

Moreover, the win gave fresh confidence to the squad heading into the final phase of the tournament. Meanwhile, KKR are now preparing for their final league-stage match against Delhi Capitals on May 24. The game will play a huge role in deciding KKR’s playoff future.
