Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket. Virat Kohli will likely make his return to India’s ODI squad for the series in England. In other news, the ACB has announced the second edition of the Afghanistan Premier League.

Kane Williamson retires from international cricket

Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket. The legendary New Zealand batter confirmed the decision midway into the three-match Test series in England. 

The cricketer recently registered scores of 0 and 18 against England at Lord’s in London as New Zealand stumbled to a huge 115-run defeat.

Williamson concluded his career with 9,515 runs in 110 Test matches at an average of 54.06.

Afghanistan confirms return of Afghanistan Premier League

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced the second edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), as the tournament returns to the cricketing lore after a gap of eight years. 

As per the announcement, the APL 2026 season will start from December 27 onwards later this year in the UAE.

The league will be played between five franchises, each representing a major cricketing region in Afghanistan, namely Kabul, Kandahar, Balkh, Paktia and Nangarhar.

Rohit Sharma suffers injury scare before Afghanistan ODI

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma suffered yet another injury scare, this time during a training session in Dharamshala. Training before India’s series-opening first ODI match at the venue against Afghanistan, the legendary opener was hit on his right thumb in the nets by fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. 

Report indicates that Sharma looked quite rusty in the remainder of the training session. The 39-year-old also recently recovered from a hamstring concern during the IPL 2026 season.

Brandon King completes 2,000 T20I runs for West Indies

West Indies crushed Sri Lanka by seven wickets in Kingston in the first T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Opening batter Brandon King scored 37 off 22 balls in a chase of 148 before getting knocked over by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Through the course of his knock, King completed 2,000 T20I runs to become only the third West Indies cricketer in history to scale the landmark figure. 

Virat Kohli to be available for England ODIs: Reports

As reported by Boria Majumdar, former Indian captain Virat Kohli is recovering well and is expected to attain full recovery to get selected in India squad for the upcoming ODI series in England. 

The legendary batter was recently ruled out of India squad for the home ODIs against Afghanistan owing to an injury he suffered during the IPL 2026 season late last month. 

The three-match ODI series against England is slated to commence from July 14 next month.
