Jitesh Sharma Snubs His Idol Adam Gilchrist [Source: AFP]
RCB wicketkeeper batter Jitesh Sharma played an interesting game where he picked the greatest wicketkeeper to have played in the IPL. However, Sharma interestingly left out his idol, Adam Gilchrist, from the list.
Jitesh is currently playing for defending champions RCB in the IPL 2026 season. However, his form has seen a massive dip as the finisher is struggling to connect towering sixes.
Jitesh Sharma picks MS Dhoni over Adam Gilchrist
Meanwhile, off the field, Jitesh Sharma played an interesting game with Cricbuzz where he had to choose the best wicketkeeper from the given options. He started by picking Wriddhiman Saha, followed by his idol, Adam Gilchrist.
However, when given a choice to choose from Gilchrist or Dinesh Karthik, Jitesh ditched his role model to go for RCB coach Karthik instead. He took a long pause before making that decision, as the Aussie has been his idol for the longest time.
Not only that, Jitesh Sharma later ditched Dinesh Karthik as well to pick legend MS Dhoni as the greatest T20 wicketkeeper.

This shows that the RCB star respects all great wicketkeepers from different eras and values each and every one’s contribution towards the game.

When Jitesh idolised Adam Gilchrist
In IPL 2025, Jitesh Sharma shared that his true inspiration behind the stumps is former Australian great Adam Gilchrist, whose effortless glove work and clean catching technique left a lasting impression on him.
He explained that there is a unique box alignment of the shoulders and knees, ensuring his body remains compact and balanced while moving laterally.
According to him, keeping the head close to the ball naturally positions the body behind it, activating a crucial second line of defence.
"I think this love for wicketkeeping is because of Adam Gilchrist. The way he used to keep the ball so easily, the way he used to catch the ball, I was very inspired by that. In wicket-keeping, there are some basics like the squat position and the balls of the feet. These are some thumb rules," Jitesh had told ANI.
Jitesh Sharma is yet to make a difference in IPL 2026
Meanwhile, in IPL 2026, Jitesh Sharma has seen a massive downfall. After a breakout year in 2025, the wicketkeeper batter has scored just 63 runs in 7 innings so far, with an abysmal average of 9.
While RCB are still winning due to contributions from the rest of the squad, Jitesh Sharma has to improve, as his form is crucial for the team going forward into the tournament.
If they want to finish in the top 2, RCB desperately needs all their bats to fire at the right time. RCB will next face LSG at the Ekana Stadium on May 7.
