In the latest development, ICC has punished Pakistan player Sidra Amin for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. She was reprimanded for her actions during Pakistan vs South Africa Women's first ODI on Sunday.

The Pakistan batter was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

Also, a demerit point has been added to Amin’s disciplinary record, and this is her second offence in the last 24 months, and this has taken her total tally of demerit points to two.

How the incident unfolded vs South Africa

The incident unfolded in the 24th over of the Pakistan batting when Sidra Amin was dismissed, and she slammed her bat onto the ground before leaving the crease. She received a similar treatment from the ICC for doing the same action against India in the 2025 World Cup.

The Pakistan player accepted the offense and will accordingly be punished by cricket’s governing body. The sanction was proposed by Shandrè Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.

Breaching the level 1 code of conduct means the player loses 50% of their match fee, and one or two demerit points added. The talented player looked good against the Proteas, but she lost the plot, and was furious after her dismissal.

Pakistan batter faces suspension from ICC

Amin could soon land in trouble as the Pakistan batter could face an ICC suspension. According to the laws laid down by the governing body, when a player reaches four or more demerit points, within a 24 month period, then it automatically gets converted into suspension points, and the player gets banned.

Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player.

According to the ICC: Demerit Points to remain on a Player or Player Support Personnel’s disciplinary record for a period of twenty-four (24) months from their imposition following which they will be expunged.

South Africa defeats Pakistan in 1st ODI

The first ODI between Pakistan and South Africa was marred by rain, and the game was reduced to 41 overs per side. The Proteas women batted first and posted 260/6 inside their allotted overs. Sune Luus top-scored with 93 off 76 balls as the team posted a challenging total.

In reply, Pakistan was never really in the hunt as the team crumbled under pressure, and were bundled out for 223. Sidar Amin scored a gritty 68 off 69 balls, but that was not enough as the team lost the first ODI match. The Pakistan side lost two quick wickets in the run chase before Amin, alongside Ayesha Zafar (81 off 94), steadied the sinking Pakistan ship.

The middle-order batters failed to deliver the goods as Pakistan lost the first ODI.
