It seems like Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, has entered the chat for the worst DRS taken by a skipper in the game’s history. In the one-off Test between India and Australia, Harmanpreet Kaur had a brain-fade moment as she made a big blunder during the Pink-Ball Test match.

Sometimes in a cricket game, captains make instinctive decisions, which backfire. This is exactly what happened with the India captain as she made an error of judgment, and had a brain-fade cricketing moment on the field.

Harmanpreet makes the worst DRS call of all-time

The incident occurred in the 6th over of the Australian innings when, under lights, the Indian bowlers were making the ball talk. Ellyse Perry was on strike as Kranti Gaud delivered a good length ball and it went past Perry’s bat as she went for a defensive block.

There was a huge caught behind shout from the keeper and the slip fielders as Harmanpreet instantly decided to take the DRS. However, the replays suggested that there was a massive gap between the bat and ball, and the Pink leather was nowhere close to Perry’s bat as the third umpire had to make an easy decision.

Even the on-field umpire had a smirk on her face as the third umpire’s decision was shown on the big screen.

Apart from her wrong decision to take the DRS, the Indian captain also had a disappointing outing with the bat on Day 1 of the Test match at the WACA. On a wicket that assisted the bowlers, Harmanpreet Kaur struggled for runs as she was dismissed for a low score of 19 off 15 balls.

Darcie Brown, the Australian pacer, bowled a brilliant nip-backer as Harmanpreet Kaur’s defense was breached. The ball sneaked past the bat-pad gap to shatter the stumps, and it stunned the right-handed batter.

India recover despite batting failures

India were put into bat by Australia after winning the toss, and the decision instantly worked for them as Smriti Mandhana, the star batter, was dismissed for a low score in the initial few overs.

Shafali Verma and Pratika Rawal got decent starts, but the duo failed to deliver the goods as Australia got the prized wickets. The rest of the batting fell like a pack of cards, and only Jemimah Rodrigues stood tall with a magnificent fifty as the team was bundled out for a mere 191.

In reply, the Aussies met with a similar fate as Georgia Voll was dismissed by a pearler from Sayali Satghare. Phoebe Litchfield was also sent back early, before Ellyse Perry rescued the sinking Australian ship with a calculated knock.

Alyssa Healy couldn’t do much either as the Indian side managed to sneak in her wicket, with the hosts losing 3 for 96 runs.

India will look to dominate Day 2 as the match is evenly poised and the visitors will aim to knock over the Aussies quickly.
