Ishan Kishan's Wicketkeeping Howler Turns Ashok Sharma's Celebration Into Agony

Ishan Kishan seems to have hit a rough patch as a wicketkeeper during India’s T20I tour of Zimbabwe. A day after missing an easy run out and committing a DRS blunder in the second T20I, the cricketer spilt one of the easiest opportunities behind the stumps at the Harare Sports Club.

The incident occurred during the ninth over of the Zimbabwe innings in the third T20I match on Sunday, July 26, and it cost Ashok Sharma his first international wicket at the time.

Ishan Kishan made an absolute meal of an easy catching opportunity during the Zimbabwe innings in the third T20I. During the seventh over, which also happened to be Ashok Sharma’s second over of the game, well-set Zimbabwe opener Ben Curran skied the ball high up in the air after getting a massive top edge.

With Kishan getting enough time to adjust himself behind the stumps, the ball still popped out of the cricketer’s hands, turning Ashok’s early celebration into pure agony.

It is worth noting that had Ishan completed the catch, the moment would have marked Ashok Sharma’s maiden international wicket in India colours, doing so in the second T20I of his career.

Ishan Kishan regains batting form, but continues to struggle as keeper

Even though Ishan Kishan returned to form with the bat in the series against Zimbabwe, the cricketer now seems to be struggling behind the stumps.

In the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on July 25, the cricketer missed an easy run-out opportunity after deciding to ‘under arm’ the ball. His casual approach allowed Zimbabwe’s tail-ender Newman Nyamhuri to survive a certain dismissal.

Earlier in the same game, the explosive wicketkeeper-batter did not appeal behind the stumps even though Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett nicked the ball towards him. 

With the bat, however, the cricketer has certainly regained his touch. In the second T20I in Harare, the belligerent left-handed top-order batter clattered 81 runs off just 44 balls with nine boundaries and three huge sixes. 

Even in the dead-rubber third T20I, Ishan Kishan forged 29 runs off 26 balls, but shared a crucial counterattacking partnership with half-centurion Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. 

Ashok Sharma takes matter into his own hands after Ishan Kishan's blunder

With Ishan Kishan spilling an easy opportunity, young Indian fast bowler Ashok Sharma took the matters into his own hands later in the game. The speedster dismissed Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter Tadiwanashe Marumani, sending his off-stump for a cartwheel.

The wicket marked Ashok’s maiden international success and the cricketer celebrated the occasion with much fervour as Team India inched closer to a 3-0 comprehensive series sweep over Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. 

Overall, the Zimbabwe cricket team slipped to 137-6 in 18 overs in their monumental chase of 193 runs in the third T20I.
