East Zone captain Ishan Kishan rose to the occasion and slammed a brilliant century against South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2026 final. The southpaw redeemed himself as he had been having a poor tournament so far. However, he regained his lost mojo at the right time.
Ishan walked to bat for East Zone when his side were reduced to 133/2. The southpaw batted brilliantly and slammed a 122-ball century. His innings featured 13 fours and a solitary six. Interestingly, Ishan brought up his ton in style and whacked a four to enter the triple-figure.
Ishan Kishan Brings Up 4000 FC Runs With 10th First-Class Century
Ishan Kishan has brought up his 10th First-Class century. East Zone are chasing their maiden Duleep Trophy title since 2012-13 edition. Ishan Kishan has had a quiet tournament so far, but has redeemed himself with the brilliant century.
With the ton, Ishan Kishan has also entered the special 4000 First-Class runs club as well. Before this innings, the southpaw required just 48 runs to reach this milestone. Courtesy of the century, East Zone are in a commanding position as they have amassed 382/4 on the board at the time of writing this article.
Ishan Kishan Reminds Ajit Agarkar Of A Test Return
Ishan Kishan brought up his special hundred in front of a very special guest. BCCI's chief selector Ajit Agarkar was in attendance to watch the East Zone vs South Zone final.
Agarkar's presence means the match will also be an audition ground for the players eyeing an India spot or return. Ishan's case is the latter as the southpaw has been out of scheme of things for the last four years.
The 28-year-old last played Test for India in 2023 against West Indies, which was his debut series. Notably, Kishan, in two Tests, has 78 runs to his name, including a fifty. He was soon removed from the team and never got the opportunity again to represent India in whites.

Ishan Kishan: A man of big occasions
Ishan Kishan has always been a man of big occasions and he has proved that once again. The southpaw had a brilliant Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he amassed 517 runs in 10 innings, which included a century in the final.
Kishan slammed a brilliant 101 run innings that helped Jharkhand lift their maiden SMAT title. Notably, the performance helped Ishan Kishan earn a T20I return. He also got into the T20 World Cup squad and helped the Men in Blue lift their 3rd title.
Similarly, the ongoing Duleep Trophy performance can be his way to return to the Test set-up. However, besides the final, Kishan has had an underwhelming edition. The 28-year-old has scored just 170 runs in 4 innings.
