The Pakistan cricket team succumbed to a demoralising seven-wicket defeat at the hands of India in match number nine of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026. Despite getting outplayed in every aspect of the game, the Pakistani skipper still found time to fire a brutal send-off to Indian opener Shafali Verma.

The incident occurred in the second over of the Indian innings, shortly after Shafali got off the mark with a huge six on the first ball of the chase. A few deliveries later, the blistering opening batter mistimed one and handed an easy catch to Sana.

After completing the catch, Fatima Sana angrily pointed the outbound opener towards the Indian dressing room. As one can expect, the Pakistani skipper garnered much criticism, with former Indian cricketer Vivek Razdan questioning the cricketer’s ‘arrogant behavior’ with no match awareness.

Vivek Razdan calls out Fatima Sana for Shafali Verma send-off

During live Hindi commentary, cricketer-turned-commentator Vivek Razdan called out Fatima Sana after the Pakistani captain fired a brutal send-off towards departing opener Shafali Verma.

Razdan was quick to remind viewers about the current match situation, and openly trolled Sana that her entire team was bundled out for just 55 in the first half of the game.

He said, “Okay, you’re showing her the way out. Your entire team scored just 55 runs, and now you’re sending Shafali Verma back.”

Why did Fatima Sana give a send-off to Shafali Verma?

On the surface, it may appear that Fatima Sana’s send-off to Shafali Verma occurred in the heat of the moment. However, it is highly possible that the Pakistani skipper took revenge for her teammate Muneeba Ali instead.

Earlier in the match during the Pakistan innings, Indian part-time spinner Shafali Verma knocked over a well-set Muneeba. As the Pakistan opener was making her way back to the sheds, she received a fiery send-off from Shafali.

Just an hour later in the game, the Indian all-rounder found herself on the receiving end of a similar send-off from Fatima Sana.

No handshakes, two send-offs and a dominant Indian win

In light of the current geopolitical climate between the two countries, the India vs Pakistan Group A match of the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup turned out to be another fiery chapter in their storied rivalry.

For starters, both captains,  Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana ignored each other at the toss, much like how all cricket teams from the two nations have done in recent encounters, heightening tensions between India and Pakistan.

Amidst the heat of Shafali Verma and Fatima’s send-offs in the game, Team India cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket win in just 8.4 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur notched up the winning runs for the ‘Women in Blue’ with a four and a six off Nashra Sandhu.

Team India has now qualified for the semifinal of the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, while Pakistan will now face Hong Kong in a must-win Group A game on September 7.
