In a big development, Team India is likely to tour Bangladesh for a bilateral series later this year as political tensions seem to have eased off after the T20 World Cup 2026 standoff.

India and Bangladesh were at loggerheads after the Tigers refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns. This led to their ouster from the tournament as Scotland replaced them after the ICC’s intervention.

Bangladesh to repair cricket ties with India

However, the political wind seems to have shifted in Bangladesh. According to reporter Abhishek Tripathi, a leadership change may soon happen in BCB as the influence of the current president, Nazmul Hassan, is reportedly declining.

It is also possible that someone favourable to India (BCCI) could take over, which may help reset relations. Most importantly, the report mentions that the bilateral series between India and Bangladesh, which was postponed last year, is back on the cards.

India will reportedly tour Bangladesh for a 3-match ODI and T20I series. This means that legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may be seen touring Bangladesh in the near future. The series will likely happen before the 2027 Asia Cup.

That being said, if the proposal goes forward, this bilateral tour will help improve cricketing ties between the two estranged nations and reduce recent tensions between cricket boards.

BCB reportedly wrote to BCCI for series resumption

Interestingly, according to a previous report, BCB officially reached out to BCCI to restart cricket ties after the T20 World Cup 2026 fallout. The new government under Tarique Rahman is pushing for better ties, including in cricket.

Even though talks have started, the BCCI is reportedly waiting for approval from the Indian government because this is not just cricket. It involves diplomatic and security considerations as well.

Bangladesh already shot itself in the foot by refusing to travel to India for the World Cup, citing a security threat. Now, the BCCI will take extra precautions to ensure security and other facilities are up to the mark for Team India if they consider travelling later this year at all.

Bangladesh changes stance on IPL broadcasts

In another move to pacify India and the BCCI, Bangladesh may lift the ban on IPL 2026 broadcast in the country. The controversy started with Mustafizur Rahman getting dropped by KKR.

In Bangladesh, this was seen as disrespectful to a national player, and hence, the country banned IPL broadcasts. But the new government might reconsider the ban.

However, even if the change happens, it won’t be straightforward. JioStar cancelled its deal with Bangladesh’s TSports after the ban due to payment delays and repeated failure to meet financial terms.

So, even if Bangladesh lifts the ban, there is no official broadcaster left to show the IPL 2026 season.
