India defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in their final group-stage match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Wednesday, February 18. Showcasing a dominant all-round performance, the Men in Blue outclassed the Dutch side in Match 36 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Here, we take a closer look at all the key moments from the T20 World Cup 2026 clash between India and the Netherlands, as the action unfolded at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India Rocked Early as Aryan Dutt’s Double Blow Leaves Top Order in Tangles
After opting to bat first, India got off to a shaky start as Abhishek Sharma fell for a third consecutive duck, bowled in the opening over by Netherlands off-spinner Aryan Dutt. The early strike jolted India, putting immediate pressure on the top order inside the powerplay.
Dutt’s clever use of right-arm off-spin continued to trouble the batters as he dismissed Ishan Kishan, reducing India to two down despite racing to 51 by the end of six overs. The Netherlands’ spin ploy worked perfectly, unsettling India’s aggressive approach with disciplined lines.
Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav attempted to rebuild, but the Netherlands kept things tight after the powerplay. Varma’s scratchy innings ended soon after, leaving India stranded at 74 for 3 at the halfway mark, struggling to regain momentum after a shaky and uncertain start.
Shivam Dube’s Blazing 66 Powers India to a Formidable Total
Desperate for momentum, India found relief through Shivam Dube, who began cautiously before exploding against Colin Ackermann, smashing 19 runs in a single over to shift control. The Dutch hit back quickly as Suryakumar Yadav fell below his usual standards, but Dube’s intent ensured India never lost direction.
Hardik Pandya joined Dube, playing the perfect supporting role as the left-hander tore into both spinners and pacers. Dube raced to a 25-ball fifty, dismantling the attack with fearless strokeplay. Pandya chipped in with two towering hits, also reaching the milestone of 6000 T20 runs.
Dube’s sensational 66 off 31 balls propelled India to a commanding 193 in 20 overs. The Netherlands began steadily but failed to contain the late carnage. Aryan Dutt stood out with figures of 2 for 19 in four overs, yet Dube’s storm ultimately defined the innings.
Late Fireworks Not Enough as India Seal Fourth Straight Win
Chasing 194, the Netherlands never quite found the explosive start they needed. Despite losing just one wicket in the powerplay, they crawled to 36 for 1 in six overs as India’s bowlers applied relentless pressure. The disciplined attack ensured the required rate kept climbing steadily from the outset.
The middle order attempted a revival through Bas de Leede and Colin Ackermann, who stitched together a steady partnership to keep hopes alive. However, Varun Chakravarthy turned the tide with two crucial strikes, breaking momentum just as the Dutch looked set to accelerate in the chase.
With 69 needed off the final four overs, Zach Lion-Cachet and Noah Croes produced sublime late hitting to stretch the contest deep. But the target proved too steep, and India closed out the game calmly, sealing a fourth consecutive group-stage win without breaking much sweat by 17 runs.
