As expected, rain spoiled the start of the India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI, delaying the toss in Wellington on Saturday. The toss was scheduled for 7 AM IST, but the weather didn’t allow it, and both sides remained in the dugout.

A washout is also on the cards as the weather could remain gloomy throughout the day, and here’s the Wellington weather report for the India vs New Zealand second ODI match.

Rain threatens to spoil India vs New Zealand as toss delayed in second ODI

As stated yesterday, the Wellington weather is generally unpredictable, and rain god arrived before the toss. There was an inspection scheduled a couple of minutes ago, but the rain intensity increased, and the umpires had to walk back in.

The average temperature is around 21 degrees; however, it’s going to remain cloudy with rain threat looming large. Unfortunately, the probability of precipitation is around 91%, with cloud cover in the region at 93% in Wellington.

Towards the evening (4 PM, Wellington time), the chances of rain will come down to 49%, and by 5 PM, it will further come down to 34%. However, the intensity will once again pick up around 7 PM.

Latest update from Wellington: There will be another inspection at 3:15 PM Local Time (7:45 AM IST). For now, the covers are on. Ian Smith, on air, says that the conditions have improved. A super sopper is on the park, soaking up the water from the outfield.

How rain can affect India vs New Zealand outcome

India aims to take a 2-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series on Saturday as they have already won the first game on Wednesday. However, the task won’t be easy on a windy afternoon in Wellington.

Rain changes the physical structure of a pitch, and the behavior can drastically alter as the surface could witness a sluggish bounce, making stroke-making difficult.

Moreover, the overcast and windy conditions will help the pace bowlers as they will get the lateral movement, making the batters' job a bit trickier than usual.
