India T20 Squad vs Afghanistan Announced, Hardik Pandya Out

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's T20 squad for the Afghanistan 3-match T20I series. In a historic move, the Afghanistan Cricket Team is set to host India in India for a 3-match T20I series in Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

The 3 matches will be played on September 13, September 15, and September 17 all at just one venue. While India has served Afghanistan's home base for a number of years, this will be the first time that the Afghans will host India.

Afghanistan have announced their squad for the upcoming 3-match series. Ibrahim Zadran will be leading the Afghan Attlans in the presence of prominent stars including Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Afghanistan T20 squad vs India- Ibrahim Zadran (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Noor Rahman (WK), Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Nangyal Kharoti, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Abdullah Ahmadzai and Naveen-ul-Haq.

*Ijaz Ahmadzai, Shahidullah Kamal and Fareed Ahmad Malik have been added to the reserve pool for the series.

BCCI announces India T20 squad for Afghanistan

The BCCI has announced India's T20I squad vs Afghanistan. Shreyas Iyer is set to captain, Tilak Varma has been appointed his deputy. Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the squad being subject to fitness.

However, he is not the lone player who is subject to fitness. Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the other players who have been named without getting a fitness clearance. 

India's T20 squad vs Afghanistan: Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Tilak Varma (Vice Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson (Wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh.

*Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana have all been added to the squad subject to fitness clearance.

Asian Games squad mimicked for India vs Afghanistan

The BCCI has already named a star studded squad for the Asian Games 2026, The Indian team will be involved in the Asian Games from September 28 from the knockout stages of the competition and regular captain Shreyas Iyer will be leading the side in the continental championship.

Earlier, it was reported that the BCCI might send a second-string squad for the Asian Games given the lack of facilities in Japan.

However, this was ruled out after the Olympic Council of Asia ruled out any changes to the submitted squads for Asian Games 2026. While all prominent names including Jasprit Bumrah were named in the squad, Hardik Pandya was the lone regular missing.

Hardik Pandya remains a point of contention

Earlier, reports had emerged that Hardik Pandya will be fit in time for the India vs Afghanistan T20Is. However, a niggle that he sustained while on recovery from earlier injury, has now been ruled out of the T20Is.

He has been one of India's most important players in the white-ball setup. Off late, his injuries have derailed India's plans since the 2026 T20 World Cup. He has not been available in the India squad for a complete white ball series since the T20 World Cup and with the 2027 World Cup approaching, his availability remains crucial to India's title lifting chances.
