The Indian cricket team was unhappy with the accommodation provided for the upcoming Asian Games 2026, and the BCCI was reportedly ready to send its B team to the marquee event due to dissatisfaction with the arrangements.

The Asian Games will start on September 19 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and the Men’s Cricket tournament will begin on September 24, while the Women’s event is set to commence on September 17. However, the Indian team, along with Pakistan and Bangladesh, were unhappy with the players’ arrangements.

Even the Asian Cricket Council was not satisfied with the players’ accommodation, and India was even ready to send its second-string side for the competition. However, the Olympic Council of Asia has finally broken its silence on the matter.

Olympic Council of Asia will not entertain any changes in the Asian Games squad

With just a few weeks left for the Asian Games 2026, there was no clarity regarding the Indian team for the coveted event, but the Olympic Council of Asia finally broke its silence on the matter and released a statement, stating that no changes will be allowed in the team unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Statement on the Athlete Accommodation for Aichi/Nagoya 20th Asian Games 2026

"Further to incorrect media reports regarding issues in securing accommodation for official Asian Games Participants, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games Organizing Committee (AINAGOC) can confirm the following:

All the 17,000+ athletes and officials that are registered for the Asian Games before the closing of Entry by Name in July have been provided with Games-appropriate accommodation.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances, no further registrations have been or will be permitted.

Problems the BCCI had with facilities for the Asian Games 2026

Earlier, reports added that an observer from the BCCI will be sent to Japan to check out the facilities provided to the Indian players, and if the conditions are not up to the mark, the board could take drastic steps.

During the official meeting between the ACC and the Japan Olympic Committee, questions were raised regarding the dressing room, which was set up in a tent, and the washrooms were just 500 m away, creating an unsatisfactory situation for the players.

Also, the hotel rooms were too small, and it was a big concern for not ony the Indian players, but for the Pakistan and Bangladesh teams as well.

Team India name a full-strength squad for the Asian Games 2026

Team India secured a Gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games, but during that edition, India had sent its second-string squad.

However, for the 2026 edition, the BCCI picked its main players, with Shreyas Iyer set to lead the team, and star bowler Jasprit Bumrah also included in the side.

All the big names, including Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Abhishek Sharma, have been drafted in as India are aiming to secure back-to-back Gold medals.
