India also bagged wins against South Africa in November 2025 to further accelerate their rating points.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Among Top Contributors For India’s Ranking
The top performers for the 2023-2026 phase of India's ODI clashes have been Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo has scored over 3,100 runs for India, with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also contributing to help India win crucial matches.
Quality all-rounders like Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja too have been among the most crucial run-getters for the team besides their bowling achievements.
Speaking of bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav has been the highest wicket-taker in the ODI format since 2023 with 42 wickets from 30 matches he has played.
Mohammed Shami follows next with 35 wickets under his belt from 14 matches, while Ravindra Jadeja impressed with his 28-wicket haul as he bowled at an economy rate of 4.64 from 24 matches.
Jasprit Bumrah too has been a vital contributor, managing to take 20 wickets from just 11 matches he appeared in, further underlining India's match-winners that helped the team maintain the top spot.
How This Ranking Will Affect 2027 World Cup Qualification Scenario?
This update will also act as a key to securing direct qualification for the ICC Men's World Cup 2027. As per the ICC themselves, the top eight teams in the ICC rankings as of March 31, 2027, will secure direct qualification alongside hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, who have automatically qualified.
Given this context, South Africa will continue to remain in the top eight positions, while Bangladesh, West Indies, Ireland, and Zimbabwe will be the strongest contenders for the eighth spot, which is currently held by England.
