The stage is set for one of the biggest matches as India take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, March 8. The highly anticipated clash will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After nearly a month of thrilling cricket action, the tournament has reached its final day with two of the most consistent teams battling for the prestigious trophy. While the silverware and global bragging rights remain the biggest prizes, the champions also recieve a huge financial reward.

It is important to mention that the ICC has announced a record prize pool for the 2026 edition of the tournament.

ICC announces record prize pool for 2026 Tournament

The ICC has significantly increased the prize money for the T20 World Cup 2026. The total prize pool for the competition stands at $13.5 million, which is approximately ₹120 crore. This represents a 20% increase compared to the 2024 edition of the tournament.

A total of 20 teams participated in the tournament this year, and the prize money has been distributed across different stages of the competition to ensure that every participating team receives financial support.

As the final approaches in Ahmedabad, both India and New Zealand are guaranteed a significant share of the prize pool regardless of the result.

How much money will winners and runners-up get of T20 World Cup 2026?

It is vital to note that the team that wins the T20 World Cup 2026 final (India or New Zealand) will receive a massive prize of $3 million, which is approximately ₹27.48 crore. The runners-up will also earn a substantial reward of $1.6 million, equivalent to around ₹14.65 crore.

For India, the final represents an opportunity to defend their T20 World Cup title after winning the 2024 edition. If they succeed, they will become the first team in history to defend the T20 World Cup crown.

New Zealand, on the other hand, will be eager to claim its first T20 World Cup title and spoil India’s celebrations. Their impressive campaign, including a dominant 10-wicket win over South Africa in the semi-final, has made them a strong contender for the trophy.

All participating teams to receive financial rewards

The ICC has ensured that teams performing well throughout the tournament are rewarded financially. The two teams that lost in the semi-finals will each receive $790,000, which is roughly ₹7.24 crore.

Teams that progressed to the Super 8 stage will earn $380,000 (around ₹3.48 crore) each. Even teams eliminated in the group stage will not go home empty-handed. Every participating team that failed to reach the Super 8 stage will still receive $250,000, which is approximately ₹2.29 crore.

Higher Prize Money Than the 2024 T20 World Cup

The prize pool for the 2026 edition is significantly higher than that of the previous tournament. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, the total prize pool stood at $11.25 million.

India, who won the 2024 title, received $2.45 million (around ₹20.42 crore), while runners-up South Africa earned $1.28 million.
