Why Virat Kohli was trolled for posting on Women's Day [Source: X]
Virat Kohli hardly posts anything on his social media nowadays, but on the occasion of International Women’s Day, he asked hard-hitting and uncomfortable questions to the people of India, which everyone should reflect upon. A special video message was released by Kohli, questioning the role of bystanders when abuse occurs around them.
Instead of words or a long video to deliver the reality, Kohli appeared in a wordless video, and it instantly generated a buzz as the Indian cricketer showed a mirror to the people of India.
Kohli's hard-hitting message on the International Women's Day
In a video that was released on his X account, Virat Kohli was standing in front of a muted background, with no music, and holding a series of placards. Each card built a narrative around the abuse that every Woman suffers, with one of the cards reading: “Yes, this is about domestic violence.”
The other placard read: “Let's not be silent spectators.” The video is a part of a campaign by Wrogn, and they have partnered with the former Indian captain to make people aware of the sensitive issue.

However, despite doing a positive ad campaign on domestic violence and women's abuse, the Indian cricketer was heavily trolled on social media.

Why fans trolled Kohli on social media
In the video, Kohli specifically talks about the abuse that numerous Women face in India, but ironically, his RCB teammate, Yash Dayal, was booked under the POCSO Act, and is facing serious legal trouble involving allegations of sexual assault of a minor.
In July 2025, an FIR was registered against Dayal, alleging that he sexually exploited a girl, who was 17 at the time of the initial incident, over a period of two-and-a-half years. The complaint alleged that Dayal promised to help the girl in building her cricketing career, but he emotionally manipulated her.
As a result, the Indian fans are trolling Kohli for speaking on women's abuse, while his own teammate reportedly committed such a crime, and RCB has not yet released him from the IPL.
Indian cricket fans have called Kohli a hypocrite for talking about domestic violence issue on International Women’s Day, and yet, he hasn’t spoken anything about Dayal, his RCB teammate.
