Heinrich Klaasen opts out of a major tournament
That being said, amid a busy IPL 2026 schedule, Heinrich Klaasen has made a big decision on his future. He has opted out of the MLC 2026 season, citing personal family commitments.
He will not play for the Seattle Orcas this year after serving them for three straight seasons. In 24 MLC games, Heinrich Klaasen scored 474 runs at a 154.90 strike rate.

Klaasen gets into a controversy on the IPL 2026 opening day
That being said, coming back to the IPL, Heinrich Klaasen faced a big controversy in the tournament opener game between RCB and SRH.
Klaasen played a lofted shot toward deep mid-wicket, where Phil Salt took a running catch near the boundary. But replays suggested Salt may have brushed or been very close to the boundary cushion.
The third umpire, Rohan Pandit, checked replays and ruled it in favour of the bowling side, as there was no visible movement of the boundary cushion after the catch.
However, Heinrich Klaasen was visibly unhappy as he spoke to the fourth umpire for clarification before walking back to the dressing room in disappointment.
Klaasen’s wicket was crucial as he was batting strongly on 31 off 22 balls, and after his dismissal, SRH struggled and could only get to a 201-run total.
RCB trash SRH in the IPL 2026 opener
That being said, RCB absolutely blew away Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL 2026 opener, chasing down a massive 202 target with ease to win by 6 wickets in just 15.4 overs.
Despite Ishan Kishan’s explosive 80 and late fireworks from Aniket Verma (43 off 18), SRH’s 201/9 proved nowhere near enough on a batting-friendly surface.
The chase was pure domination. Virat Kohli led the charge with an unbeaten 69, while Devdutt Padikkal smashed a blistering 61 off just 26 balls to break the game open.
Captain Rajat Patidar added a quickfire 31, ensuring there were no hiccups in the chase. With that victory, RCB have begun their title-defending campaign on a dominant note while SRH have a lot to contemplate on.
