KKR’s fortune for IPL 2026 turned from bad to worse, as Harshit Rana, one of their most reliable faces, has been ruled out of the entire season.
The TOI reported that Harshit Rana is still recovering from the injury he sustained during the T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up game, and he is yet to be fully fit to back into the action.
Meanwhile, KKR is yet to name a replacement for India’s all-rounder. They had just announced their Mustafizur Rahman replacement, with Blessing Muzarabani getting rewarded with a spectacular IPL 2026 deal.
Harshit Rana IPL Career
Ever since making his IPL debut in 2022, Harshit Rana has been playing for KKR, representing the Purple and Gold Brigade. Overall, he has picked up 40 wickets in 34 matches, though his economy rate was on the slightly higher side (9.51).
Harshit was superb in IPL 2024, when KKR won the title under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. In that campaign, Harshit took 19 wickets in 13 matches, with a strike rate of 13.32.
As a reward, he was retained by KKR before the IPL 2025 mega auction, bagging a contract of INR 4 crore.

When Did Harshit Rana Last Play For India?
Harshit Rana was last in action against South Africa during India’s T20 World Cup warm-up tie. Prior to that, he represented India in both ODIs and T20Is when India were up against New Zealand in January 2026.
Overall, Harshit has played 2 Tests, 14 ODIs and 9 T20Is, and also became India’s all-format all-rounder under head coach Gautam Gambhir. He used to play under Gambhir in the past as well, when KKR had Gambhir as his mentor, during IPL 2024.
After the injury vs South Africa, Harshit had a successful knee surgery in February 2026. He made that public on Instagram, captioning: “Surgery done right. Now focused on recovery and getting back to what I love,” Rana wrote in a post on Instagram.”
Unfortunately for him, he will not be able to get back his fitness before IPL 2026.
How Will KKR Pace Attack Look Without Harshit Rana?
Interestingly, KKR will now have problems of plenty, as their two big-money overseas pace options – Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana – have already caused them major setbacks for different reasons.
Now, with Harshit Rana being injured and ruled out of the entire IPL 2026, KKR will have to find a different bowling attack altogether.
Among pacers, KKR have Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi and Akash Deep. They have now signed Zimbabwe’s 6 feet 8 inch tall Blessing Muzarabani, and now, it will be interesting to see how they fare.
Notably, Cameron Green, KKR’s INR 25.2 Crore buy can also bowl fast, and the Purple and Gold Brigade might need him the most for rolling his arm over.
