The IPL 2026 league stage has ended, and four teams- RCB, GT, SRH, and RR have reached the playoffs. One of the firm favourites to win the IPL 2026 title is the Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Red Army has finished in the top two, and will play in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday.

The defending champions will take on the confident Gujarat Titans side in Dharamsala, and the two sides are evenly matched ahead of the marquee battle. Playoffs are a different pressure match, and sometimes, individual qualities win you the games.

Both sides have players who can take the game away quickly and can come out as match-winners. For RCB, that player is Virat Kohli. The RCB legend has played in numerous knockout matches (both for RCB and India), and has the experience of performing at big stages.

Ahead of the RCB Vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 match, we take a look at Kohli’s track record in IPL playoffs.

Virat Kohli's overall IPL record at a glance

One of the greats of the IPL, Kohli has been playing in the league since its inception (2008). He has been a part of the RCB squad since the first season, and has gone from strength to strength playing for the side.

The Indian great is the leading run-scorer of the IPL, and has several records under his belt, and here is how he has performed in the IPL.

(Kohli's IPL overall record)

  • 9218 runs, with an average of 40, and a strike rate of 134, define his IPL journey. He has the most hundreds in the IPL, and has one of the best averages in the league.
  • Time and again, his strike-rate has come under scrutiny, but Kohli has always delivered match-winning performances, despite not scoring as rapidly as some other players.

Virat Kohli's record in IPL playoffs

A player of Kohli’s stature is expected to have a brilliant track-record in the IPL playoffs. Kohli thrives under pressure, and one expects the RCB legend to be one of the best run-scorers in the knockouts.

However, in reality, things are a lot different. The former IPL captain has been dismal in the knockouts, and the stats reveal the entire story.

(Kohli's record in IPL playoffs)

  • While the batter possesses a stellar overall IPL record, the same cannot be said when he enters the knockouts. In 17 playoff matches, the RCB opener has smacked just 396 runs, with an average of just 26.4 in 17 matches.
  • There have also been question marks over his strike rate, as Kohli strikes at only 121, which is way below his IPL numbers.
  • In most of the knockout matches, the champion batter has played as an opener, and yet, he only has two fifties to showcase, and it reflects on his poor IPL playoff stats. However, the great man would be eager to change that record in the upcoming Qualifier 1 match.

Conclusion by Anurag

While Kohli possesses outstanding IPL stats with numerous match-winning performances, the same cannot be said about his knockout record. For India, he always delivers the goods under pressure, but in the RCB jersey, he crumbles under pressure.

One major reason for this downfall could be due to the fact that he takes extra pressure when playing for RCB. Before IPL 2025, he was under pressure to deliver them a title, and hence, he tried a bit too hard to score runs and win matches.

That could change in Qualifier 1 against GT as Kohli already has an IPL trophy, and he’ll play the game without any pressure.
