Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur have both been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri for their respective contributions for India in the field of cricket. It is worth noting that both Rohit and Harmanpreet are World Cup winning captains for the Indian national team, with the former guiding the men’s group to a successful 2024 T20 World Cup conquest in the Caribbean.

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian Women’s team conquered the world for the first time back in November 2025 by winning the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup at home.

Harmanpreet, Rohit named Padma Shri recipients

As reported by ANI, former India men’s captain Rohit Sharma and active women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur have been conferred with Padma Shri for their services to cricket for the country.

For Rohit Sharma, the significant moment arrived as part of his generational run, considering the legendary opener has led Team India to 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy victories in the last two years.

Even Harmanpreet Kaur led the India Women’s team to a World Cup win in her last appearance at an ICC event a couple of months ago.

Both Rohit and Harmanpreet will now join an illustrious league of India’s cricketing legends to win the prestigious Padma Shri.

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur share another glaring similarity, as the two dynamic personalities are part of the Mumbai Indians franchises in IPL and WPL respectively. While Sharma led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles before getting replaced by Hardik Pandya, Harmanpreet has won the WPL title twice and is still the captain of the decorated franchise.

The Padma Shri continues to stand as one of India’s most prestigious civilian honours, given to outstanding individuals whose contributions have exceeded the ordinary. Officially ranked as the fourth-highest civilian award in India after Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan; the Padma Shri have also been conferred to some elite cricketers.

Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur are set to become the latest additions to an illustrious list of cricketers whose impact on the game has been recognised nationwide and has left an indelible mark on the sport.

Previously, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Rahul Dravid, 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev among others have been honoured by the Indian government with the Padma Shri.

Rohit Sharma eyes World Cup 2027, Harmanpreet to tour Australia

While Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test and T20I cricket, the legendary Indian opener is reportedly aiming to extend his ODI career till the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Harmanpreet Kaur, on the other hand, is set to lead the Indian Women’s team on their all-format tour of Australia next month. The tour marks a significant flashpoint for Team India, as they aim to justify their World Cup win late last year.
