Here, we take a look at the entire highlights from the eighth match of the WPL 2026 season between Mumbai Indians Women and UP Warriorz Women, as it panned out at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, January 15.
Nat Sciver-Brunt, Nicola Carey bolt Mumbai Indians to 161
Batting first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians Women lost opening batter Gunalan Kamalini for a sluggish five from 12 balls to Sophie Ecclestone. However, by the time of her dismissal, Gunalan had already crafted a swift 43-run opening partnership with Amanjot Kaur, largely owing to the latter’s belligerent 33-ball 38 with seven cracking boundaries. Deepti Sharma struck the opening blow for the UP Warriorz with the huge wicket of a well-set Amanjot, before senior Englishwoman Nat Sciver-Brunt stepped out into the crease and formed forces with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.
Nat smeared 65 runs from just 43 deliveries with nine fours and one six to catapult the Mumbai Indians Women to a monumental 161-5 in 20 overs. After the fall of captain Harmanpreet for a speedy 11-ball 16 to Asha Sobhana (1-33), Nicola Carey provided Mumbai Indians the slog-overs impetus through her fiery 20-ball 32*.
For the Warriorz, Shikha Pandey grabbed the wicket of a dangerous Nat Sciver-Brunt in the final over to unfurl the spell of the innings through figures of 1-25 in her four overs. Ecclestone also demonstrated her spin excellence with a tight spell yielding 1-26 for her side.
Harleen Deol blitz, Chloe Tryon cameo wins it for UP Warriorz
Chasing 162 for a win, UP Warriorz raced to 42-0 at the end of the powerplay, with captain and opening batter Meg Lanning listing 25 off those runs from 26 balls with three fours and a six. Kiran Navgire struggled to get going in her sluggish 12-ball 10 before both Warriorz openers were toppled by Mumbai Indians’ Nat Sciver-Brunt in the space of just five deliveries to slip to 45-2 in seven overs.
Harleen Deol at number four led Warriorz’ counterattack by forging an electrifying 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket with young Australian Phoebe Litchfield (25 off 22 balls). After Litchfield was dismissed by Amelia Kerr (1-42) at the end of the 15th over at 118-3, unbeaten Harleen ended up racing to 64* from 39 balls with 12 boundaries.
Her partnership with Chloe Tryon and the latter’s fiery 11-ball 27* helped UP Warriorz gun down Mumbai Indians total with 11 balls and seven wickets to spare. Tryon blasted four fours and one huge six in her blistering cameo, as the South African hard-hitter notched up the winning runs off Sajeevan Sajana in the penultimate over. Their partnership yielded 44 runs for the UP Warriorz in just 19 balls as Meg Lanning’s troops finished off the proceedings in 18.1 overs.
