The Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 season is fast descending into chaos, going from bad to worse with each passing game. After starting off the season with an emphatic win over KKR, the Hardik Pandya-led side has since lost four matches in a row.
The latest of those defeats occurred against the Punjab Kings in match number 24 of the IPL 2026 season on Thursday, April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The unfortunate outcome pushed the Mumbai Indians down to number nine on the 10-team points table, further denting their playoff hopes.
Amidst Mumbai Indians’ dwindling campaign, even captain Hardik Pandya was recently spotted hiding his face inside the team bus as the senior all-rounder almost broke down while sitting next to Suryakumar Yadav.

Shortly after Mumbai Indians suffered a demoralising defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings in match 24 of the IPL 2026 season, captain Hardik Pandya was spotted in a seemingly emotional state inside the team bus.

A short video circulating on social media features Pandya hiding his face as the cricketer was trying to hold back his tears following his team’s latest trashing.
Sitting next to Suryakumar Yadav, the senior Indian all-rounder did not utter a word as he silently stared blankly out of the bus window.

Pandya struggling to make impact as captain, all-rounder
Apart from his captaincy struggles, Hardik Pandya has also failed to make an impact with both, bat and ball this IPL 2026 season. In four matches of the tournament so far, the 32-year-old has managed to score just 81 runs at an average of 27.
The fast-bowling all-rounder has also managed to grab just two wickets in four innings at an expensive bowling average of 67 and with an economy rate of 11.16.
Pandya’s struggles as a player, and as a captain have only compounded Mumbai Indians’ woes, further deepening their slump in an already faltering campaign.
Mumbai Indians vs PBKS: As it happened
Everything seems to have gone wrong for captain Hardik Pandya and for the Mumbai Indians franchise overall in their IPL 2026 home game against the Punjab Kings.
Apart from his toss blunder after they were invited to bat first, the cricketer scored just 14 off 12 balls with the bat and leaked 39 runs from his three wicketless overs.
Courtesy of a sublime century from Quinton de Kock and a sizzling half-century from Naman Dhir, Mumbai Indians mounted 195-6 to shrug off a fiery three-wicket haul from Arshdeep Singh.
In response, Prabhsimran Singh blasted 80* from 39 balls and captain Shreyas Iyer compiled 66 off 35 balls to steer Punjab Kings to a comprehensive seven-wicket win with 21 balls to spare.
Mumbai Indians to face Titans in must-win game
With just one win and four defeats from five matches, a battered-and-bruised Mumbai Indians franchise will now face Gujarat Titans in match 30 of the IPL 2026 season.
A must-win game for Pandya’s troops, the match will be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, April 20.
