Speaking on this light, Morne Morkel, the South African pace legend and the current bowling coach of India recently shared the value Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli add to the cricket team.Ahead of the West Indies ODI series that starts on September 27, Morne Morkel addressed the media while sharing how well the team learns from stars like Rohit and Kohli as the duo currently are playing only the fifty-over format.Morne Morkel appreciates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s helpRohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who debuted in 2007 and 2008 respectively on the international stage, carry a significant amount of experience on their back while being part of massive title-winning tournaments. With almost two decades of experience and 1,076 international matches combined, the duo acts as an umbrella of knowledge and the bowling coach Morne Morkel was only appreciative of that fact.First while speaking to the media, Morkel acknowledged the captain Shubman Gill as a leader but then simply went on to laud the seniors in the team and their contributions.“It’s always great to have that experience back in the team. Shubman has also done an excellent job so far in leading the team,” Morkel shared.“I’ve always been a big believer in the importance of senior players and how they shape the team. We’re very fortunate to have that kind of experience among our senior players,” Morkel shared.Morkel explains how the India duo impart their knowledgeMorne Morkel further stated that they deliberately create the stage for the cricketers to speak in team meetings, by asking them relevant and complicated questions that might help younger players to learn from their experiences.“We always made sure to include as many questions as possible in team meetings, giving the senior players like Kohli and Rohit an opportunity to speak and share their experience.”For the unaware, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have some monumental records to their name across formats as they have also registered the second-highest partnership runs for India in ODIs after Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. In T20Is, Rohit and Kohli’s partnership is third-highest with 1,350 runs from playing 42 matches.Kohli, Rohit cleared for West Indies ODIsMeanwhile, for the unaware, both Rohit Sharma and Kohli have been cleared to play in the upcoming India vs West Indies series from September 27. Although, initially, Rohit’s inclusion was under clouds, with no immediate fitness concerns or performance drop issues, Rohit will be playing the series, which will also become a valid stage for the Hitman to prove his case for World Cup 2027 since he has produced lows like 26, 11 and 16 in the last six months.Virat Kohli meanwhile will be fit and aggressive to play with form on his side.
