Virat Kohli and his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma will likely be visiting Houston next week. Several fans and media outlets are claiming that India’s star celebrity couple will be attending the NRG Stadium in the USA on June 17 to catch football legend Cristiano Ronaldo in action in Portugal’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 

Kohli already holds profound admiration for Ronaldo, and the prospect of watching the Portuguese icon grace football’s grandest stage could make the occasion a particularly special one for the former India captain as well as for fans of the two sporting legends. Here, we determine if the legendary Indian batter will indeed be visiting the USA to support his football idol. 

Will Virat Kohli attend Portugal World Cup match for Cristiano Ronaldo?

Reports have sparked much interest among both cricket and football fans, about Virat Kohli potentially showing up in Houston to support football idol Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The speculation largely stems from Kohli’s admiration for Ronaldo, as well as from the fact that the legendary Indian batter is currently injured and ruled out from India’s ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. 

However, there is no official confirmation, either from Virat Kohli or from his representatives if the 37-year-old will indeed be present at the stadium for the Portugal match.

In the meantime, one particular report suggests that “Kohli and Anushka Sharma will be present at the stadium on the 17th to support the Portugal team and watch Portugal’s match in the FIFA World Cup. Virat Kohli is a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Kohli has often expressed his admiration for Portugal football icon Cristiano Ronaldo. He once said “His drive is separate. He is a true leader. I love that about him. He operates at such a high level because he works harder than everyone else.”

The legendary Indian batter has also admitted to have utilized Ronaldo’s athletic template to becoming one of the fittest cricketers in the world. He successfully institutionalized Ronaldo’s ‘fitness-first’ philosophy in the Indian team, especially during his time as Team India captain. 

When will Virat Kohli make his return to competitive cricket

Kohli recently lifted the IPL 2026 title for the RCB franchise in Ahmedabad. However, since then, the legendary batter has been ruled out of India squad for the ODI series against Afghanistan owing to an injury. The cricketer has been replaced by Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. 

As of now, several reports indicates that the cricketer will attain full recovery within the coming weeks. Moreover, the 37-year-old will likely tour England as part of the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series next month. It is worth noting that he last played international cricket for India way back in January this year during a home ODI series against New Zealand.
