Daryl Mitchell has pretty much blown hot and cold this PSL 2026 season for RawalPindiZ. After stamping his authority with an exceptional all-round performance against Karachi Kings earlier in the tournament, the seasoned New Zealand pro has failed to make an impact with both, bat and ball against Islamabad United and Multan Sultans.

In any case, a certain picture is now circulating on social media, where Mitchell can be seen holding a ‘Player of the Match’ award. Interestingly, what caught everyone’s attention is the fact that the cricketer appears to be holding a “hairdryer” for his award.

Did PSL really gifted bald Daryl Mitchell a hair dryer?

Daryl Mitchell appears to have been received a “hairdryer” as his ‘Player of the Match’ award in the ongoing PSL 2026 season. A picture of the same is already circulating on social media, with several Indian fans trolling the league for what appears to be an unusual choice of award, especially for a cricketer who is bald in the first place.

However, a closer look at the post clearly suggests that it is an AI-generated image. For starters, Daryl Mitchell has not been named ‘Player of the Match’ yet for the RawalPindiZ in the PSL 2026 season so far.

Even in the match where he scored a fighting 65 and picked up three wickets against the Karachi Kings, it was Azam Khan who bagged the award for his run chase masterclass.

Moreover, in the ongoing PSL 2026 season, the PCB and the organizers have been gifting an award and a monetary cheque of five hundred thousand Pakistani rupees to ‘Player of the Match’ winners.

When James Vince won a ‘hairdryer’ for a record PSL century

In any case, fans felt inclined to believe Daryl Mitchell’s unique ‘award’ because a similar unconventional award has been seen in PSL in the past. Back during the 2025 edition of the tournament itself, the Karachi Kings franchise gifted ‘Player of the Match’ James Vince a hairdryer, after the attacking Englishman plundered a record PSL century against the Multan Sultans.

Vince bludgeoned 100 runs off just 42 balls in the game, as Karachi Kings mowed down Multan Sultans’ 234-run total with four balls to spare. The innings currently stands as the third quickest century in the history of the PSL.

Shortly after he was presented with a ‘hairdryer’, fans were quick to flood social media and trolled the PCB for the perceived lack of prestige and cost-cutting reflected in the choice of reward.

RawalPindiZ still in search for first win of PSL 2026

Just like how Daryl Mitchell is yet to win a ‘Player of the Match’ award this PSL 2026 season, the RawalPindiZ franchise is yet to secure a single win so far in the tournament. Under the leadership of senior wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, the team has suffered four defeats in succession and is currently placed at the bottom of the PSL 2026 points table.

The RawalPindiZ will now take on the Quetta Gladiators in match number 18 of the season on Friday, April 10.
