England were one of the favourites to win the T20 World Cup alongside India, but fast forward two games later, and the team faces two must-win matches, with one of them coming against Scotland on Saturday. The Three Lions will face-off against Italy on Monday, and ironically, the have never beaten a European team in T20 World Cups.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions have released their playing XI for Scotland game and did not make a solitary change despite a defeat against West Indies in their last game.

Openers and top order batters: , Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell

England did not make a single change in their top order as Jos Buttler will continue to open the innings with Phil Salt despite a poor season so far. Meanwhile, Phil Salt has blown hot and cold, but England know his capability as the batter only needs one game to come back in form.

Jacob Bethell, the young sensation, has been England’s best batter at the top, and the elegant southpaw will continue to bat at number 3 as the team hopes he can continue to deliver the goods.

Middle-order and all-rounders:  Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Tom Banton

Tom Banton has been trusted with another game despite no major contribution. The English batter was trusted in the middle-order, but England’s two T20 World Cup matches has shown that he is not fit for the job.

• Just 4 runs in two matches with a strike rate of 44 define Banton’s T20 World Cup journey so far. In both matches (against Nepal and the West Indies), he has looked out of touch, and Buttler’s presence in the middle-order will boost the side as they need experience there.
• With Buttler at 4, captain Harry Brook will bat at 5, and he will play the role of a finisher and an aggressor as the team needs their skipper to deliver the goods against the Scottish side.
• The finishing touches will be given by Sam Curran at 6, and Will Jacks at 7, and there is enough firepower between the two batters to trouble Scotland.

Bowlers: Liam Dawson, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid

In Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid, England has two terrific spin-bowling options; in fact, Rashid was outstanding against the West Indies in the last game, and he’ll carry the same confidence against the Scotland side.

However, Jofra Archer’s place remains under dark clouds for the next game. The pacer has been woefully out of touch, and the stats reveal the story.

• In the two matches Archer has played, he has only scalped 2 wickets, with an economy of 11.25.
• He has looked out of touch, and Archer’s biggest worry has been his death-bowling as the batters have found it easy to tackle him. However, the only problem is, there is no Archer replacement.
• There are Luke Wood and Josh Tongue warming the bench, but Wood was replaced by Overton in the last game, and England doesn’t have any other feasible options to replace Archer. Hence, the only option left would be to play him against Scotland.
• Jamie Overton will be the other pacer in the playing XI as the team aims to win their second game in the group stage.
