Before India’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Namibia, the host nation suffered a major jolt as star batter Ishan Kishan was struck on his left toe by a toe-crushing yorker from Jasprit Bumrah. The pace bowler delivered a deadly ball, and Kishan failed to get his bat on it as he copped a blow.

The Indian batter was down in pain as the team physio attended to him, and he gave a mini scare to the Indian fans. However, he got up quickly and was ready to play the match against Namibia as the team breathed a sigh of relief.

Bumrah's cheeky message for Ishan Kishan

Kishan also delivered the goods during the match against Namibia as his whirlwind fifty was the key to India’s victory, as they have one foot in the Super 8’s. After the one-sided win on Thursday, Jasprit Bumrah, who injured Kishan’s toe, posted a photo alongside him, with a cheeky message for the ‘pocket dynamo.’

"What doesn't hurt you (too badly), makes you stronger," referring to when he injured the Indian batter wit his deadly ball. Through the caption, Bumrah indirectly stated that the blow made Kishan stronger as he was determined to shrug it off against the opponent on Thursday.

In the photo posted, the duo was present in the dressing room and had a smile on their face after crushing Namibia in Delhi.

Kishan delivers the goods to blow away Namibia

After getting injured, there were doubts about Kishan’s participation in the Namibia match, but he not only stepped onto the field but delivered the goods to silence the opponent bowlers.

On a wicket that supported free-flowing batting, Kishan broke the shackles, and after a steady start, he exploded as he smashed a 20-ball fifty, which was apparently India’s fifth fastest in T20 World Cup history.

The southpaw also surpassed the great MS Dhoni to become the first Indian batter to slam a fifty in T20 World Cups. Opening the batting, Kishan scored a quick-fire 24-ball 61, and the innings was laced with 6 fours and 5 sixes, with a strike rate of 254.17.

His knock was crucial in helping India cross the 200-run mark as the middle-order crumbled, but due to Kishan’s brilliance, they managed to beat the Namibia side. While most of the other batters couldn’t score big, Kishan ensured that his stellar knock gave India wings and a platform to score a big total against a resilient Namibia squad.

Kishan's importance for India's World Cup game against Pakistan

India’s star opener, Abhishek Sharma, is doubtful for the high-profile match against Pakistan on Sunday, February 15. The player suffered from an upset stomach and was even admitted to the hospital a couple of days ago.

In case he misses out, the onus will be on Kishan to give India a solid start against their arch-rivals. Kishan has been in a purple patch, and India will hope the patch continues against Pakistan. The Men in Blue will need a fiery start against a solid Pakistan bowling attack, and Kishan will hold the key, especially with other Indian batters going through a slump.
