The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named a strong 20-player squad for the England Lions team. Otherwise known as England A, the England Lions cricket team is set to take on Sri Lanka in a series of two T20 matches this week.
The short series will serve as a precursor to the three-match T20I series between England and Sri Lanka. In light of the impending international assignment, the ECB has named as many as seven players from the national squad for the England Lions series against the visitors.
England pick seven players from white-ball squads for ‘A’ series vs SL
On Monday, September 7, the ECB named a 20-member England Lions squad for the upcoming two-match T20 series against Sri Lanka.
As many as six players, who are set to face Sri Lanka in England’s T20I series next week, were also named in England Lions squad. They are Tom Banton, James Coles, Aneurin Donald, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood.

Henry Crocombe is the seventh cricketer named from the England international squad for the ‘A’ series. However, Crocombe was drafted from England’s ODI squad instead, unlike the other six players who will play the T20I series.
Capped England cricketers like Mason Crane, Tom Hartley and Luke Wood are also included in the England Lions squad for the two-match assignment.

The ECB has also decided to reward Caleb Falconer, Ben Mayes and Joe Moores with a place in the England Lions squad for the series against Sri Lanka.
It is worth noting that the three aforementioned players were part of the England U19 team earlier this year that reached the final of the U19 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 in Zimbabwe.
Mayes aggregated the highest number of runs in the tournament with 444 runs to his name in just seven innings at a prolific average of 74 and with a strike rate of 112.40. While Falconer charted 309 runs in six innings at an average of 61.80, Moores made 170 runs in seven innings. Tom Banton and co. to join England squad after ‘A’ series
England Lions cricketers Tom Banton, James Coles, Aneurin Donald, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood will be expected to join the England national squad in Southampton shortly after their ‘A’ series against Sri Lanka.
The two-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and England A, will be played between September 11 and September 13 at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground in Chelmsford and the County Ground in Beckenham.
