The funny thing about blind rankings is that they can reveal some surprisingly bold opinions once the names and reputations are taken out of the equation. Punjab Kings star Harpreet Brar found that out first-hand while ranking IPL all-rounders without knowing who he was picking next.
Be that as it may, the 31-year-old still placed one of IPL’s most decorated cricketers, Hardik Pandya, as his top choice among all-rounders who have graced the league.
Harpreet Brar ranks Hardik Pandya as best IPL all-rounder
In a video shared by the Punjab Kings franchise this past weekend, Harpreet Brar was asked to blind-rank five great IPL all-rounders.
Upon hearing the name of Shane Watson, the 31-year-old placed the Australian champion and former CSK opener at fifth on his list of best IPL all-rounders.

Without knowing about other contenders, Brar placed Mumbai Indians skipper and legendary all-rounder Hardik Pandya at the top of his list.
The Punjab Kings star subsequently ranked CSK icon and Rajasthan Royals player Ravindra Jadeja as his second favorite all-rounder, and named former West Indies cricketers like Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard at third and fourth spots respectively.

Why Harpreet Brar’s Hardik Pandya pick may not be so “blind” after all
While Brar made his choice without knowing which names would come next, there is a compelling case to be made that Hardik Pandya is, in fact, the most complete all-rounder the IPL has ever produced.
One of the greatest IPL players of all time, Pandya is a five-time title-winning cricketer, including four for the Mumbai Indians franchise. Moreover, he led the Gujarat Titans franchise to a historic IPL victory in his maiden captaincy season back in 2022.
A veteran of 162 IPL games, Hardik has aggregated nearly 3,000 runs with the bat, all while mostly batting in the lower order. He holds an astonishing strike rate of 146.28 and averages 27.87.
Pandya has blasted 10 half-centuries so far in his career, with the best of them being the 34-ball 91 he fired against the KKR back in IPL 2019. With the ball, Hardik Pandya has scalped 82 wickets in 116 IPL innings.
Where do Jadeja, Pollard and Russell rank as IPL all-rounders
While Harpreet Brar ranked Hardik Pandya has his favourite IPL all-rounder, the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard and Shane Watson are not far behind when it comes to their overall impact and legacy in the league.
For starters, Jadeja is one of the greatest all-rounders in IPL history, and is also one of the leading wicket-takers among spinners with 180 sticks to his name. He has also aggregated over 3,500 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 130.64.
Both Pollard and Russell are multi-IPL winning cricketers for the Mumbai Indians and KKR franchises respectively, while Watson lifted one title each for the Rajasthan Royals and the CSK.
Notably, while Shane Watson was ‘Player of the Tournament’ in Royals’ only IPL victory, he won the ‘Player of the Match’ award in the final of the IPL 2018 season for the MS Dhoni-led franchise.
Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine miss out
Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine, however, missed out from Harpreet Brar's top five all-rounders of the IPL.
Despite holding distinguished careers, the two cricketers were not even mentioned in the blind-ranking by the Punjab Kings' social media representative.
While Sunil Narine is a three-time IPL winner for the KKR, he has picked up 144 wickets and scored nearly 2,000 runs. Even Dwayne Bravo has lifted the IPL title four times for the CSK franchise, and is one of the league's most successful fast bowlers with 183 wickets to his name.
