Former India pacer S. Sreesanth has named Sourav Ganguly as the greatest captain India has ever had.

Although Sreesanth made his international debut under Rahul Dravid, played a few Test matches under Anil Kumble, and spent most of his career under MS Dhoni, he believes Ganguly stands above all of them as a captain.

Sreesanth Names India's Greatest Captain

Recently, while speaking on The Lallantop's show Guest in the Newsroom, the ex-Indian pacer shared his admiration for Ganguly and explained why he holds him in such high regard.

While sharing his views, Sreesanth made it clear that Ganguly stood above all others in his eyes. "For me, Sourav Ganguly, Dada is still the best captain India has ever seen," he said.

Meanwhile, despite India producing several successful captains like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, Sreesanth believed Ganguly remained the greatest captain the country had ever seen.

Sourav Ganguly's Support Changed Sreesanth's Career

According to the former Indian star, Sourav Ganguly played a major role in helping him reach the Indian team. The former captain spotted the young pacer during a practice session and continued to support him throughout his career.

Speaking about Ganguly's influence, Sreesanth said: "Dada watched me bowl in the nets, backed me, and later gave me crucial advice before the South Africa tour. That's why I have immense respect for him."

Because Ganguly supported him Sreesanth has a lot of respect for him. He thinks Sourav Ganguly is one of the important people in his cricket career.

Sreesanth Delivered A Career-Defining Performance Against South Africa

Interestingly, the ex-RR player played a key role in one of India's most historic Test victories. In 2006, India registered its first-ever Test win on South African soil.

During the Johannesburg Test, the World Cup star delivered an outstanding performance. He claimed eight wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.

As a result, South Africa were bowled out for just 84 runs, which helped India gain a significant advantage.

Furthermore, his efforts were important in securing India's maiden Test victory in South Africa, making it one of the most memorable performances of his career. Not only did he shine in the Johannesburg Test, but he also finished as the highest wicket-taker in the entire three-match Test series.

The right-arm fast bowler picked up 18 wickets during the series and consistently troubled the South African batters. However, despite his impressive performances, India eventually lost the series 2-1.

S Sreesanth Has Always Praised Sourav Ganguly

Meanwhile, this is not the time the ex-Indian pacer has talked about how much he likes Ganguly. He has said times that Sourav Ganguly helped him a lot.

It is worth mentioning that Sreesanth was also a member of two of India's biggest cricketing successes, the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning teams.

Throughout his international career, he played 27 Test matches, 53 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 10 T20 Internationals for India. Across all formats, he claimed a total of 169 wickets, including 87 wickets in Test cricket.

However, his career later faced a major setback when the BCCI banned him over his alleged involvement in the IPL spot-fixing scandal. As a result, his time in international cricket came to an abrupt end.

Notably, the Kerala pacer was last seen playing competitive cricket on May 9, 2013.
