Ashutosh Sharma set to be traded [Source: BCCI]
In a recent development, Ashutosh Sharma, a decent middle-order batter and chase rescuer for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, is set to be traded by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2027 retention deadlines.
Known especially for his big-hitting abilities as an impact player in the team, Ashutosh Sharma first made his mark back in 2024 and returned with his best average with the bat in the 2026 season. Now, DC is looking forward to bagging a player with a new role in exchange of Sharma amid the trade season.
Delhi Capitals to trade Ashutosh Sharma with a bowler from LSG or GT
As per a recent report from Cricbuzz, Ashutosh Sharma might be traded to either Gujarat Titans or Lucknow Super Giants. The report read that the final team has not yet been decided, but DC’s interest lies in acquiring a pace bowler in exchange for the firepower batter.
“Delhi Capitals are looking to trade Ashutosh Sharma for a pacer ahead of IPL 2027. The destination is unclear, but the possibilities could include GT and LSG,” the report read.
Ashutosh Sharma currently has a salary of INR 3.80 crore with the Delhi Capitals after they retained the player in the 2026 IPL auction. The franchise bought him in 2025, when he made his impact with a strike rate of 160.62.
Sharma was most efficient for DC though in the March 24, 2025 match against LSG when he bagged 66 off 31 balls to chase a target of 210 runs after DC stumbled early at 7/3.
Although the 2026 season hasn’t been retain-worthy as per Capitals, it is now understood that the franchise is looking over him to stabilise their pace bowling core for the 2027 season.
Why Delhi Capitals is looking for a pacer in IPL 2027?
DC already secured two big trades ahead of 2027. Rishabh Pant was roped back in while T Natarajan was traded for Zeeshan Ansari to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Looking at the pace department, DC has enough firepower with names like Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Auqib Nabi, Dushmantha Chameera among others. However, pacers are often prone to injury with overseas slots in the Playing XI being more reserved for batters often.
Hence, looking at the progressively bat-friendly pitch conditions in IPL, DC would be interested towards securing the core of their pace bowling with an Indian swap if possible. The most likely trades for Ashutosh Sharma would be Gurnoor Brar and Ashok Sharma from the Titans or Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan from the Lucknow camp.
Other major IPL trade update
Cricbuzz also stated that the Gujarat Titans have approached another franchise for a finisher in exchange for speedster Ashok Sharma a few months ago. However, the offer made was not considered.
The Titans are also planning to release Shahrukh Khan, who was bought for a hefty amount, but the finisher has failed to deliver the goods for the franchise.
