Delhi Capitals have had a topsy-turvy journey in the IPL 2026. Led by Axar Patel, the Capitals have lost two of their first four group-stage matches in the tournament.

DC kick-started their IPL 2026 campaign with dominant wins over Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. However, their form gradually dipped as the tournament progressed, resulting in successive defeats from Gujarat Titans and CSK.

Under Axar Patel's leadership, the Capitals had a forgettable IPL 2025 season, missing out on a playoff spot. They could win seven out of 14 group-stage matches, finishing fifth on the IPL points table last year.

As they get ready to take on RCB in their next match, the Capitals have taken a bold and drastic step to redeem themselves in the IPL 2026.

Delhi Capitals fear familiar IPL humiliation in 2026

As mentioned earlier, Delhi Capitals suffered a group-stage elimination from the IPL 2025. Interestingly, they had a great start to the competition, securing thumping wins over LSG, SRH, CSK and RCB.

However, their form underwent a steady slump as the tournament progressed, eventually resulting in their exit from the tournament.

They took a gamble by appointing Axar Patel as their captain ahead of a seasoned veteran like KL Rahul. However, the bold move didn't pay off, as they extended their IPL trophy drought.

Therefore, the 2026 edition could be a make-or-break IPL season for Axar Patel, who desperately needs to prove his mettle as an astute tactician. As Delhi Capitals fear another middling IPL season, they have taken a proactive step in order to bounce back against the red-hot RCB.

Delhi Capitals take proactive step to conquer RCB

Led by Axar Patel, Delhi Capitals will take on RCB in their fifth group-stage match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18.

While the IPL franchises generally conduct multiple practice sessions a day or two prior to the match, the Capitals took an entirely unique step and arrived at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru many days before the RCB clash.

As revealed by renowned Indian journalist Gaurav Gupta, the Capitals have conducted mid-season training camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence amid their underwhelming run in the IPL 2026.

Interestingly, the Capitals became the first-ever team in the tournament to utilise a BCCI facility for training camps ahead of an IPL match.

Why did DC choose BCCI CoE?

The BCCI Centre of Excellence offers exceptional training facilities to the players. The cricketers get multiple high-quality pitches to fine-tune their skills in order to prepare for marquee clashes.

Additionally, the BCCI Centre of Excellence is located in Bengaluru, where DC will play their fifth IPL 2026 match against RCB. The conditions at the BCCI facility are similar to those at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Therefore, the Capitals utilised the BCCI infrastructure to not only get an extended practice period but also acclimatise themselves to the alien conditions, given that this will be their first match in Bengaluru this season.
