Kolkata Knight Riders maintained their torrid run in IPL 2026, as Chennai Super Kings steamrolled them by 32 runs in the 22nd group-stage match of the tournament.
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR failed to chase a 193-run target, with CSK restricting them to 160 for seven in 20 overs.
Thus, the three-time champions incurred their fourth defeat of the season, reeling at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table.
After Ajinkya Rahane led KKR to yet another defeat in the tournament, the BCCI imposed a hefty penalty on the veteran batter for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
Ajinkya Rahane penalised by BCCI for slow over rate
Under Ruturaj Gaikwad's astute leadership, CSK secured their second victory of the IPL season, beating the Knight Riders convincingly.
However, as the high-profile game concluded, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
The Ajinkya Rahane-led Kolkata Knight Riders maintained a slow over rate, failing to complete their full quota of overs in the 22nd group-stage match against CSK.

This was Rahane's first slow over-rate offence in IPL 2026, and the BCCI therefore imposed a penalty of INR 12 lakhs on the Knight Riders' skipper.

Ajinkya Rahane blowing hot and cold in IPL 2026
Experienced batter Ajinkya Rahane was KKR's best batter in the IPL last season. The right-hander amassed 390 runs at an average of 35.45 and a strike rate of 147.72.
However, the seasoned campaigner has had a topsy-turvy campaign in the IPL this year. Although he kickstarted the IPL season with a flamboyant half-century against Mumbai Indians, Rahane failed to convert his starts into significant scores in the subsequent matches.
Overall, he has managed 152 runs across five innings so far and would like to show consistency as an embarrassing group-stage exit looms on KKR.
KKR's miserable run in IPL 2026 summarised
While Ajinkya Rahane has struggled to play impactful knocks consistently, it's fair to say that none of the established names in the KKR IPL 2026 squad has stepped up with the bat.
The likes of Finn Allen and Cameron Green have let the Knight Riders down, with injuries to Matheesha Pathirana and Varun Chakaravarthy further derailing their campaign.
The Kolkata-based franchise is still searching for its first win of the season and will take on Gujarat Titans in its next game on April 17.
