Lizelle Lee fined for showing dissent to umpire’s decision in WPL 2026
Delhi Capitals opener Lizelle Lee was given out stumped off Amanjot Kaur after a lengthy on-field discussion by the umpires during the 11th over of the run chase. Amanjot bowled a delivery on the leg side, to which Lee got overbalanced while attempting a flick. Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous safely gathered the ball down the leg side and dislodged the bails, with multiple camera angles suggesting that Lizelle Lee’s bat was in the air at the time.
The former South African cricketer expressed her displeasure over the close call, as she walked out protesting the umpires. Lizelle Lee was later fined 10 percent of her match fees and was handed one demerit point.
As per the league’s media advisory, Lee admitted to breaching a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct. The aforementioned code of conduct relates to the abuse of cricket equipment during a match.
Delhi Capitals remain in contention for WPL 2026 playoffs
Despite Lizelle Lee’s dismissal at a critical juncture, the Delhi Capitals Women’s team crushed Mumbai Indians by seven wickets and with an over to spare in Vadodara. The outcome marked only their second win of the WPL 2026 season in five attempts as the Capitals gained a rung to rise to number four spot on the five-team points table.
Chasing 155 to win, Lizelle Lee bludgeoned 46 runs off 28 balls at the top of the order with seven boundaries and a six. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues at number four minted an unbeaten 51 off 37 deliveries to anchor the Capitals chase after the fall of Shafali Verma (29 off 24), Lee and Laura Wolvaardt (17 off 19).
Earlier in the match, the Mumbai Indians batted first and charted 154-5 in 20 overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt at number three top-scored in the innings with a sublime 45-ball 65* to overcome the early loss of both openers. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also listed a cracking 41 off 33 in the middle order.
For the Delhi Capitals, young left-arm spinner Shree Charani picked up three wickets in the innings at an expense of just 33 runs from her four overs, which included the prized scalps of Harmanpreet Kaur and hard-hitting Nicola Carey.
Nonetheless, Lizelle Lee and the rest of her Delhi Capitals teammates will now face table-toppers RCB Women in match number 15 of the WPL 2026 season. The match will be hosted by Vadodara on Saturday, January 24 later this week.
