David Warner landed in serious trouble after being charged with a drink-driving offence in Sydney on April 7, 2026. The star Australian player, who is currently leading the Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2026, will now face legal proceedings.

The incident took place on the evening of April 5, 2026, in the suburb of Maroubra. According to reports, David Warner stopped his van just before reaching a random breath-testing checkpoint on Malabar Road.

David Warner charged with drink and driving

Police officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached his vehicle and conducted a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result. He was then taken to the Maroubra Police Station for further testing.

At the station, David Warner allegedly recorded an alcohol reading of 0.104, more than twice the legal limit of 0.05 for fully licensed drivers in New South Wales. As a result, he was charged with a mid-range drink-driving offence.

Why was David Warner arrested?

Reports (from NewsCorp as quoted by NDTV) suggest that Warner admitted to consuming alcohol shortly before driving. He reportedly told police that he had been drinking with a friend and had consumed three glasses of wine before attempting to return home.

His decision to stop the vehicle before the testing site did not prevent authorities from carrying out the breath test. Officers approached him directly and conducted the check, which confirmed he was over the legal limit.

Following the positive test, David Warner was arrested and processed at the police station. He is now scheduled to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on May 7, 2026.

It is important to mention that Warner had returned to Australia for a short break during the PSL. He is expected to rejoin the Karachi Kings squad before their next match against Peshawar Zalmi.

NSW Issues major statement on David Warner

Cricket New South Wales has acknowledged the incident and issued an official statement expressing concern.

Chief executive Lee Germon stated that the organisation takes such matters very seriously and strongly promotes responsible behaviour among players.

He confirmed that Warner is aware of the seriousness of the allegations and will receive support during the legal process.

At the same time, Cricket NSW made it clear that the incident would serve as a reminder to reinforce road safety awareness among all players.

"David Warner is fully aware of the gravity of the allegations,” Germon said. “Full support will be provided to him throughout the legal process. Measures will be taken to raise awareness among all players about the importance of safe driving."

However, on the cricketing front, Warner has played three innings in the PSL for Karachi Kings, scoring 93 runs at an average of 31.00 and a strike rate of 138.81.

Talking about the Karachi Kings, the team has performed in the tournament so far. The team is currently placed in the second position of the points table with 3 wins in three matches they have played so far.
