Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are definitely heading towards a major transition ahead of IPL 2027. More than a year remains before the next season, but the five-time champions have already started making crucial decisions about their coaching staff, players, and leadership structure.
The biggest development is the search for a new head coach after Stephen Fleming ended his 18-year association with CSK. With CSK finishing 10th in IPL 2025 and 8th in IPL 2026, the franchise is looking for a fresh approach to make a strong comeback in IPL 2027.
MS Dhoni is also expected to have a major say in the decisions as CSK looks to make his potential final IPL season memorable.
Eoin Morgan Demands Massive Amount For CSK Head Coach Role
According to a recent report by Rohit Juglan from Revsportz, former England captain Eoin Morgan has emerged as a possible option for the CSK head coach position. However, the report claims that Morgan has demanded ₹20 crore for the role.

The reported amount is higher than the salary of CSK's costliest player, Sanju Samson, who is set to earn ₹18 crore for IPL 2027. However, it is important to note that there is no official confirmation from CSK regarding Eoin Morgan's alleged demand.
If appointed as CSK’s head coach, Eoin Morgan would represent a different coaching choice for CSK.
He has limited IPL coaching experience but brings significant leadership and strategic experience. Eoin Morgan also captained England from 2014 to 2022 and led the team to its first ODI World Cup title in 2019.
MS Dhoni Demands A Fresh Coaching Unit; Mike Hussey Excluded
As per the same report, MS Dhoni and the CSK owners could be considering a complete change to the coaching setup rather than simply replacing Fleming.
The franchise has been linked with several names, including Brendon McCullum, Albie Morkel and Mike Hussey. Earlier, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has also indicated that the franchise is considering an overseas candidate for the head coach role.
However, according to the latest report, CSK may not be considering Hussey for the head coach position.
MS Dhoni Gets Major Say In CSK's Future
According to another report by the Times of India (TOI Sports), MS Dhoni could have significant control over CSK decisions ahead of IPL 2027. He is expected to have a say in player selection, auction strategy, and the appointment of the new coaching staff.
The franchise is desperate to return to winning ways after two disappointing seasons. With Dhoni potentially entering his final season, CSK are reportedly keen to give him a strong team and a coaching setup ahead of the upcoming season.
As per the same report, CSK might also part ways with bowling coach Eric Simons. The medical team could also see some changes, although a complete overhaul is not expected.
It is worth noting that, as per the same report (TOI), MS Dhoni also wants to bring back an old data and video analyst. Meanwhile, AR Srikanth could reportedly be restricted to scouting duties.
If these changes happen, Chennai Super Kings' coaching setup could look very different in IPL 2027.
