Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun a major overhaul of their coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027 after three disappointing seasons. The five-time champions last lifted the trophy in 2023 but have since finished fifth in 2024, tenth in 2025 and eighth in 2026.

The franchise appointed former India pacer Zaheer Khan as head coach in September, ending Stephen Fleming’s long association with the team.

CSK have since made further backroom changes, bringing in former India pacer Mohit Sharma as bowling coach and former England spinner Gareth Batty as assistant coach.

In this article, take a look at the full list of Chennai Super Kings coaching staff for IPL 2027.

CSK Head Coach for IPL 2027: Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan was appointed CSK’s head coach in September 2026, replacing Stephen Fleming, who had been associated with the franchise since its inaugural IPL season in 2008 and served as head coach from 2009.

Fleming left after CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and subsequently took charge of England’s men’s Test team.

Before joining CSK, Zaheer worked with the Mumbai Indians setup and served as a mentor with Lucknow Super Giants. However, the CSK position marks his first head-coaching assignment at this level.

CSK Bowling Coach for IPL 2027: Mohit Sharma

Former India fast bowler Mohit Sharma has been appointed CSK’s bowling coach for IPL 2027, replacing Eric Simons.

Simons had been part of the franchise’s coaching setup for several years but will not continue with the team following the changes ahead of the new season.

Mohit is familiar with the CSK environment, having represented the franchise as a player earlier in his IPL career. He also played for India across formats and enjoyed successful IPL spells with Chennai and Gujarat Titans.

Working under Zaheer, he will be tasked with helping CSK strengthen their bowling plans and prepare their attack for the upcoming season.

CSK Assistant Coach for IPL 2027: Gareth Batty

Former England spinner Gareth Batty joins CSK as an assistant coach ahead of IPL 2027. His move brings an end to a 21-year association with Surrey, where he played and later became head coach.

Batty took charge of Surrey in 2022 and guided the county to three consecutive County Championship titles between 2022 and 2024. Surrey also finished runners-up in 2025.

His success in English domestic cricket has established him as an experienced coach, despite his move to the IPL representing a new challenge.

Batty played nine Tests, 10 ODIs and one T20I for England. He also shared a playing association with Zaheer Khan at Worcestershire, a connection that has been reported as a factor behind his move to CSK.
